Bicycle Playing Cards – Jacked Up
From the time I was a little girl, I remember playing cards with my friends. Playing cards could keep me entertained for hours, as there were so many choices (including playing alone, when nobody was around or available. Solitaire anyone? ). As I entered my teen years, my mom and I would play a really fast-paced game called “Nertz”. Oh, the hours we would spend trying to beat the other. This was also our favorite game to play when I was expecting my son – I would go over to her house and we would sit at the kitchen table and talk, laugh and play cards. I will always treasure these memories.
I was delighted to discover that my in-laws also loved to play cards! Â Every Friday night, our preferred “outing” was going over to my husband’s parent’s house to have dinner and settle in for a few hours of “Nertz”. Â It was always guys against girls, and SO much fun. Â His mom was also a Canasta whiz, and taught us how to play that as well.
When my own kids were little, my husband and I played card games with them frequently and it was always something they looked forward to. The game “Go Fish” was an all-time favorite of the whole family. As our children have grown older, we don’t get to play card games as much as we would like, unfortunately. We did, however, enjoy some family time this weekend, while playing some fun new Bicycle Card games.
Family game night is a little more exciting these days, when classic games are combined with today’s technology. We sat down for an evening of fun and laughs, thanks to Bicycle Cards “Jacked Up!” decks.
What is Jacked Up!? Well let me tell you all about it! At first glance, the cards look pretty much the same as traditional cards, but there is a twist. Each deck has severalcards with a code that is scanned on your smart phone. When you flip over a card with the code, the Joker will give you an instruction to follow.
For instance, while my daughter and I were playing War, one of the instructions was to “take two cards off of the top of your opponent’s deck”. Another instruction was for us to perform “War”. Then we were each directed to take the top card from our decks and hold them several feet in the air. We were then to drop them, and the player whose card landed the closest to the war pile, got all of the cards. It was quite entertaining! The Jacked Up! app can be downloaded for free from the iTunes store.
Since kids these days are pretty much attached to their phones, this is a great way to incorporate traditional games with technology. The combination of these two definitely keeps kids interested and, in essence, more willing to participate in family game night (especially as they grow older). Too often, parents are busy and kids are involved in their own projects. Bicycle Playing Cards wants to bring the family together again to enjoy quality time, while bonding and enjoying fun and laughter together.
When I showed my best friend the games, she was really excited too. She has a 7-year old daughter and a 15-year old son, and she is looking forward to some quality time with them, doing something they can all enjoy together, in this technological world.
If you want to bring game night back into your home, look no further than Bicycle Playing Cards “Jacked Up”!

This is so cool! It’s great to see classic games coming back with a modernized twist. My husband and I used to play War all the time! We’ll have to try this new version.
I think so too!
I’ll have my grandkids teach me how to play! They are much smarter than I am!
Like the spin on the ld game
This looks so much fun! I always play games with the hubby and kids…lately its been dominos because he is determined to beat me but usually cards. Rummy and war are big in our house, this looks like a lot of fun.
This sounds like a great way to spice up the game. We love playing cards.I will have to look for these. They would make great stocking suffers.
I’m sorry, but I still prefer to play family games the old fashioned way — without electricity needed..
Wow. I have not seen the Jacked up cards. I have always loved games, whether board games, card games, or dice games. I will definitely have to check out these decks of cards.
I haven’t heard of this before, but would be great family fun with the older kids!
How cool and fun! We also grew up playing card games and this sounds like a great addition to our game room! Thanks for the heads up and review!

I do quite love playing cards but I never get to do it anymore. I really did enjoy Canasta, but I have long since forgot how to play. Lol
I like playing games the good old fashioned way but I can see how this would be beneficial for families that are heavy users of technological devices.
I think this would be a great game for both the adults an bigger kids
I love card games. Used to play 500 Rum with my grandmother and aunt when I was a kid.
Sounds like an interesting way to take card games to the next level. I had never heard of jacked up cards before!
Wow that’s really cool! I like practically anything involving iphones or modern technology. Very good indeed.
What a cool concept, I always played cards -the traditional games and my gramma and I would play UNO for hours. I’d like to try one of these and see if my kids will like it, they won’t get into board games with me. Wish me luck-thanks for the post!
I will be looking for this in the store bc my stepson loves to play card games and I think this way of playing would engage my hubby and step daughters to join in and play with us! 🙂
My sister and I always loved playing card games!! These Jacked Up cards look fun. I’m all for family games! Thanks for the review!
My kids would love these.
No smart phones. We used to play Cribbage and double solitaire with the original Bicycle cards.
It would be the amazing family game!!
I didn’t know about these but I love it!
This looks like so much fun! My older girls would have a great time with this!
We need to take a look at the new games. We are HUGE card players. Our kids learned early and nothing so EASY to take with you on vacation, to family, is a deck of cards. My mom started it all. They play cards at every single family event. It was what they passed their time with when young. Cheap entertainment and so fun! Helps kids learn a lot about math too! LOVE this post!
I left a message Jen but didnt post? We play cards all the time. Our kids started really young, somehthing passed mostly from my mom’s family. It really helped them with math and numbers. Now we’d rather play than any other regular board games or watching tv. Easy to take a deck along to a family event or vacation too! Thanks..LOVE this post!
I use to play these cards all the time growing up. I love solitaire. Its my favorite card game.
