Child Hunger Ends Here – and you can help!

I have lots of information to share with you today – all for one great cause! News of a Twitter Party, a popular musician, and something dear to my heart – Child Hunger Ends Here.

A couple of years ago, I was proud to be a part of the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign, and I am so happy to be a part of this again (though I wish the child hunger problem didn’t exist at all). It is happening in our own neighborhoods, whether we realize it or not. The child that you see in the window every time you walk down the street? His family might not be able to afford the food he needs.

The numbers are staggering. More than one in five children in the U.S. may not know where their next meal is coming from (this number includes more than one in four Latino children). That’s nearly 16 million children, a number that could fill about 8,000 playgrounds. Please stop and think about that for a minute – it is truly heartbreaking.

We all know how important food is to function and learn, and kids who experience even temporary struggles with hunger may suffer serious, long-term consequences to not only their health, but their well-being and educational achievements too. It is very sad that when children go hungry, they are being robbed of the promise of childhood – the ability to play, grow and learn.  No child should have to experience hunger. Ever.

Each year I am more and more impressed with all that ConAgra Foods and Procter & Gamble are doing to help hungry children. It truly takes a village, and  you and I can help! ConAgra has partnered with P&G with the goal of building a community of people to make a difference. Ideally they would like to help donate up to 7 million meals through the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign – this is where you come in!

When you buy ConAgra Foods and P & G products, make sure you look for the red pushpin symbol! These containers contain a code that can be entered online at ChildHungerEndsHere.com, Facebook.com/ChildHungerEndsHere (or even right here on Eighty MPH – look to your right!). For each code entered, ConAgra Foods will donate one meal to Feeding America (monetary equivalent). How fantastic is that? The program runs from March – August, so there is still plenty of time to help! It is so easy for all of us to help, when we buy products we already use (just look for that red pushpin!). Together we CAN make a difference!

Hunter Hayes Road Race

Multiple GRAMMY-nominee Hunter Hayes and ConAgra Foods have teamed up to end child hunger while attempting to break the Guinness World Record for Most Concerts Played in multiple cities in a 24-hour period. He is aiming for 10 concerts in 10 cities, in 24 hours (I have always loved Hunter Hayes, but this makes me love him even more!). The current record is eight shows in 24 hours set by the Flaming Lips. They broke the previous record made by Jay-Z! C’mon Hunter – you can do this! The 24 Hour Road Race to End Child Hunger begins on May 9th, and Child Hunger Ends Here is the proud presenting sponsor of this special event. This will occur May 9th-10th!

During this same time, Child Hunger Ends Here is issuing a challenge as well – to break its own record for the most meals donated (codes entered) in 24 hours.
