You can create an amazing DIY Halloween Photoshoot for your baby with these easy tips and photos for inspiration. Make a mental note of these infant photoshoot ideas and tips before you start. Don’t forget to snap lots of pics like you would with other special occasions!
You need 4 key elements to make an amazing Halloween photoshoot:
- Fall setting or something generic indoors
- Cute costume
- Your baby
- Good lighting
Cute Halloween Costume
The cutest halloween costumes for babies are the simple one like a pumpkin or a sweet pair of pajamas with ears. There are many Halloween costumes for infants to choose from to suit your theme.
When your baby is doing more spitting up than sitting up, then you need to think of a setting where they can either lay on their belly or back. Place the baby on a pillow or blanket and that’s really all you need.
Take the photos when baby is asleep, awake, or even crying if you’re going for authenticity. My favorite photo of myself as a child is a photo of me in a little sailor dress with a sad look on my face. These will be priceless pics that you can display with high guality photo tiles that stick & re-stick called Wallpics.
Fall Setting
If you can’t create the setting then take the photoshoot to the set! Visit someplace fun like a farm or event where there will be plenty of Instagramable moments for you to capture. Add theatrics like pumpkin smoke from shutterbombs to take your DIY halloween potshot to the next level.
The pumpkin patch is a great place for a DIY photoshoot because many of these locations charge a fee for professional photographers. If it’s just you, your baby, and a camera there’s no problem.
*Pro tip: If you are bringing a professional photographer, call ahead!
Lighting Indoors
Hold your baby as you both share the spotlight! You’ll want to remember these moments too, and sometimes I regret not being in many of the photos with my baby.
When shooting indoors, be sure to have enough lighting shining directly at your face and not behind you. In some cases you may need a light on both sides so that one side of your faces is not shrouded in a creepy shadow.
It’s Halloween so you might be going for creepy, but for memorable photos it’s best to be able to see baby’s cute little face. Remember, they are only babies once.
How To Keep Baby Happy
Keep things simple if baby is on the move. Babies tend to become unhappy wearing lots of clothes like a costume, so for your DIY Halloween photoshoot you’ll want to be quick.
Prep your setting first then get baby in costume and snap away!
Creativity Is Key
