Eucerin Summer Skin care and $25 Target Gift Card Giveaway

I don’t know about where you live, but it has been incredibly hot here in Northern California. Even foggy San Francisco is feeling the heat!

Summer is in full-swing and the outdoor activities have begun! Whether you are going to an outdoor sporting event, doing gardening at home, washing your car, enjoying a concert in the park…whatever you are doing, make sure you don’t forget the sunscreen! It is easy to forget sunscreen while you are enjoying the beautiful weather, but please set your watch or alarm on your phone to remind you when it’s time to lotion up!

Eucerin Skin First Ambassadors, eucerin skin first pledge

Eucerin has provided some important information about sun and sun damage:

UVA rays exist year-round, and like an X-ray, they can pass through clouds, clothing, windshields and even office windows. UVA rays penetrate into the deeper, second layer of the skin (the dermis), and are the primary cause of chronic sun-induced skin damage and premature aging of skin.

UVB rays are stronger in the summer months and penetrate the topmost (epidermis) skin layers. These rays are the main cause of sunburn and skin cancer. The SPF (sun protection factor) rating on sunscreen only measures UVB protection and not all sunscreens provide UVA protection, so check the products you purchase carefully for full-spectrum (UVA and UVB) sun protection.

The Risks of Sun Exposure
Long-term overexposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays is damaging to your skin’s health—this can include both tanning and incidental daily exposure. UV radiation stimulates the production of melanin, which is the skin’s reaction to shield deeper levels of skin from further damage. Both a suntan and sunburn are demonstrations of sun damage to the skin.

Did you know that over 90% of the visible changes commonly attributed to aging are caused by sun exposure?  UVA rays damage skin’s collagen and connective tissue, resulting in loss of firmness, sags and wrinkles. There are so many reasons to be aware of sun damage, namely skin cancer, but protecting your skin from damaging rays can also prevent wrinkles!  I know that I do not want wrinkles – so I keep a little bottle of sunscreen in my makeup bag.  This helps me  remember to apply it every day.  It has just become part of my routine.

UVA and UVB rays play a role in skin cancer development, which occurs most often on sun-exposed skin and is the most common type of cancer in the United States.

Of course there are some good things about sun too!  I know for me, my mood improves drastically when it is bright and cheery outside.  But it has other benefits as well.  Sunlight helps the body produce most of the vitamin D required for healthy bone, blood and muscle function. Vitamin D is a hormone that helps the body maintain healthy nutrient absorption from food, while aiding in bone development, immunity and blood cell formation. Without regular sun exposure, the body requires vitamin D from foods and supplements. The consequences of vitamin D deficiency can be serious, and include high blood pressure, breast cancer and type-1 diabetes.

Make sure you sensible in the sun! Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen, particularly during the peak sunlight hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. will help protect skin from the damaging effects of UV rays. But avoiding the sun altogether is not recommended, as lack of sunlight can also cause serious impact on our health.

  1. I use light moisturizers in summer, but for my feet, I use exfoliating tools like the PedEgg to get rid of that dry and dingy looking foot edges you get from wearing sandals.

  7. Hi! 🙂 Well, I’m not an outdoors person much, so definitely would be hard to get sunburns that way… but will probably be scratching too much since it’s summer, my face gets oily with heat and humidity… so, it’s a mixed bag, alas.

  23. I use sunscreen religiously and I cover up. When I’m out, I always choose shade as opposed to sitting directly in the sun and I try to stay out of the sun during peak hours. Having a tan may look nice but in later years, one’s skin will look like leather … and the health problems can be devastating. I’ll stick with my lily white skin and hopefully have lovely skin well into old age! Thanks for this opportunity!
