FISHER NUTS SO VERSATILE!

We love eating salads at our house and often enjoy a cold, crisp salad for lunch on hot summer days. Salads are quick and easy to make and they can be extremely versatile allowing you to utilize whatever fresh vegetables and fruit you have available locally.

Fisher Nuts sent our family a summer salad package containing a very nice 8 quart stainless steel mixing bowl, 11 inch salad tongs, salad dressing shaker, 5 reusable produce bags, a package of Fisher dried cranberries, a package of Fisher Chef’s Naturals Sliced Almonds and a package of Fisher Chef’s Naturals Walnuts Halves & Pieces.

We enjoy eating nuts by the handful for snacks too but I decided to use these to actually cook with these. I made gluten-free and dairy-free Banana Muffins using the Dried Cranberries and the Walnuts from Fisher Nuts, and they were delicious. The kids said they loved the sweetness of the cranberries in the muffins.

BANANA MUFFIN RECIPE:
1 cup brown rice flour
1 cup cooked millet
2 eggs
1/2 cup honey or agave nectar
2 bananas
1/2 cup oil
Handful of walnuts
Handful of cranberries

Put all the above ingredients in a blender and blend till combined. Pour equal amounts into a muffin tin and bake at 350 until tops are slightly browned.

I made an Oriental Salad with Peanut Butter dressing for lunch using the slivered almonds. I have never had a salad dressing shaker and was amazed at how easily it combined all the ingredients (even thick items like peanut butter) just by shaking and how convenient it was to store and pour the dressing. It was a lot less messy than traditional salad bottles too. The produce bags were new for me too. Not only can you use them for produce but since they are made of strong, light-weight, easy to see through mesh polyester produce bags are also great for storing travel items, shoes and cosmetics too!

Have you considered the nutritional benefit of adding nuts to your recipes and foods? Nuts are extremely good for you. Almonds provide Vitamin E, protein, fiber, calcium, magnesium and iron. Walnuts contain a vast amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids which improve blood lipids and help fight cardiovascular disease. They also can help with weight maintenance, brain health (cognitive), bone health and even diabetes. We put nuts in our morning health shakes, we like them in cereals and I often add them into recipes.

  17. One of our favorite easy dinners is to take macaroni, broccoli, sun-dried tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and toasted pine nuts (we’ll use toasted walnuts if we don’t have any on hand). It takes less than 20 minutes to throw together (including the time it takes for the water to boil) and it’s delicious. Since I am vegan, I add nuts to a lot of my meals for some extra protein. We also love to add almonds and cashews to veggie stir-fries.
