Family board games, Telestrations game for families

Every once in awhile, a family friendly board game comes out that we fall in love with. The latest one that we have discovered is Telestrations! I was sent this game for review and my husband, kids and I played this the other night and had a blast! What is Telestrations?

In this laugh out loud sketch, pass and guess game that’s a fun twist on the classic “telephone game,” everyone plays at the same time. Each player gets their own erasable sketch book, dry-erase marker and word card. A roll of the die determines each player’s secret starting word. The timer gets turned and everyone draws their word. After 60 seconds, everyone passes their book to the player on their left. Then each player takes a few seconds to guess what they see, and passes again. The timer is turned and everyone draws what they see. This play continues until everyone’s sketch book passes by every player and returns back to its original owner, where it’s time to see what happened to each secret word. Points can be scored if the last guess matches the secret word, and for favorite sketch & written guess in each book. Just like the game of “telephone” or whatever you called it as a kid, the outcomes are unpredictable and the laughter is endless! What is the “Telephone Game”: A classic game often played by kids. In the “telephone game,” (also known as “operator,” “grapevine,” & “gossip”) as many players as possible line up so they can pass along messages. The player at the beginning of the line whispers something to the next player. Then that person passes on the message to the next player. The passing continues until it reaches the player at the end of the line, who calls out what she heard – which is often amusingly different from how the message started. The “telephone game” has no winner; the entertainment comes from comparing the messages!

Since I don’t draw very well, it was especially hysterical. It doesn’t really matter if you are an artist or not, this game is fun! I love that it is something the whole family can enjoy, and best of all? There is no “winner” or “loser”. It is just plain good old-fashioned fun!

Here is a fun video that will give you an idea of how Telestrations is played:

I highly recommend Telestrations for kids, adults with kids, or anyone else who loves to draw or just laugh!

  1. I have never heard of this game. We are a big game playing family and many of our favorite family time is spent together playing board games. This game looks hilarious and something the whole family would really enjoy. Thanks for the review.

  2. I have not heard of this game! Age 12 + is perfect for us now…I am glad you dont have to be an artist, as I would lose everytime then! so…my husband’s computer from work wont let me play for some reason with sound, but was fun watching the video!
My 11 year old would love this game to play with friends too! WE need more games,…we watch WAY too many rental movies. We need to interact more and this would help with that.

  3. This looks fun! I would have loved to play this with my friends when I was little and had sleep overs all the time. We used to play games similar to this one. I think any kid would like to play this game. Cool review!

  4. We played this game for the first time Christmas night, it was absolutely hilarioius, haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. All ages 10 and up can play, adults and kids alike will enjoy. Highly recommend!.
