I’m sure that most of us have had a teacher or two who had a big impact on us. I remember two especially. The first was my 4th grade teacher – her name was Mrs. McCullough and she was just a sweet and caring lady. She was incredibly funny, which made the classroom enjoyable. She and my mom become close friends as well. I still use some of her phrases to this day! The second teacher that I remember so fondly was my 7th grade Algebra teacher. If you don’t know me, you might not know that I am horrible at math! Bless his heart, he would try to help me after school, by doing the math problems on the chalkboard. He was so patient with me, when I just didn’t get it time and time again.
Hershey’s is saying thank you – yes to you! Did you know that every time you buy Hershey’s, part of the proceeds help provide education, support and opportunity to children in need through the Milton Hershey School? I didn’t know this either, but it makes me feel good to know that I have helped, even without knowing it. I certainly have eaten enough Hershey’s chocolate in my lifetime to make a difference {true story}. Every time you buy Hershey’s you are giving back to the community!
For a century, you’ve helped MILTON HERSHEY SCHOOL build its legacy as a transforming home for thousands of boys and girls needing to escape the throes of extreme poverty; and for some, homelessness, abuse, neglect and high-crime neighborhoods. Every time you’ve enjoyed HERSHEY’S chocolate, you’ve given the opportunity of a first rate education and nurturing environment – and the impact is felt nationwide. Alumni respondents to a recent survey devoted as much as 457,000 hours of volunteer time per year, up to $10 million annual contributions to charity and created as many as 154,000 jobs. This was all made possible through your support of Milton Hershey School and their successful alumni.
You can learn more about the Milton Hershey School and it’s legacy on their website. While you are there, you can also send a virtual chocolate “thanks” to a friend!
Hershey’s sent me a wonderful basket full of chocolate to “thank” me for doing my part. Oh happy day. I anxiously awaited it’s arrival, and my family and I have been enjoying it thoroughly. Hershey’s quality is undeniable – I have been a fan for years!

I had a few teachers throughout my education that had an impact on me. One of them is now the principal at the high school I went to. She was at the time I was there a French and Latin teacher. Then another was the man who headed the dept of the subject that I got my major in in College. He recently passed away. The way he looked at things was framed by the way he grew up and his experiences and I feel that his teachings made me look at things in my own life and experiences.
I’ve been blessed to have had several wonderful teachers in my life. One of the ones that effected me most was Dr. Ford. He gave me a real love for financial things. He really made it touch home so you could readily understand it.

school was a loooooong time ago for me, and, even though it was still years ago, I want to say a special thank you to the teacher who taught all 3 of my daughters in Head Start (pre-school). ‘Miss Barbara’ will always hold a special place in my heart and the hearts of all 3 daughters (and a few of their old classmates have fond memories of her too…) Even though she was not technically ‘my’ teacher, I can think of no other teacher in my life who had as big an impact on my life. Thank you Barbara Prout (1995-1998 and I still remember her name… ;-))

I absolutely loved my 4th grade teacher, Ms. McLaughlin. She was creative, caring, and accepting. I felt like in her class I actually ‘fit’ in. First time I ever felt like I fit in a class before.
And I guess I should say, my high school English teacher, who is now my mother-in-law, was another favorite teacher because she encouraged me to write my fiction.
I also have you in my text blog roll.

The teacher that had an impact on me was my mother. She has always taught by example and has encouraged me to be the best that I can be in life. Throughout all the ups and downs, she has instilled in me the belief that with God, nothing is impossible.

The teachers most valuable to me were my Mom… and my son’s high school teachers Mrs. Laning, and Mrs. Spinner.
How blessed we are to have had them in his life. They really cared and taught him to be a good writer and a logical thinker, and gave him confidence and advice….to help him to be a fine young man.
My first grade teacher made an effort to make sure I was always interested in school, and even gave me extra fun assignments when I was finished with my work. She made me love reading and that has never gone away. Thank you Mrs. Oldham.
I had several special teachers. Thinking way back to fifth grade, I remember Mrs. Sprenkle. She was an elderly teacher (although to a child everyone seems old), and although she was stern, she cared a great deal about kids and she made sure you always knew that. She gave me the biggest hug on our last day that almost knocked me over-LOL!

I had good grades in math until 8th grade. Then I had a really algebra teacher, and my grades suffered a lot. After that my geometry and trigonometry teachers were only okay, and I sort of muddled along. I got good grades, good enough that I was put in the calculus track, but I didn’t really understand what I was doing, and I felt bad about myself and my abilities. Then I had Mrs. A, who was brilliant. And amazing teacher, a vibrant woman, she cared about each one of her students and she knew that we were all capable of excelling. And more than that, she knew what to do to draw that out of us. By the end of my year in her classroom I felt wonderful about myself, I loved math, I knew what I was doing, and my grades were awesome. I went on to be a math major in college! She absolutely shaped my career by helping me to recover from a bad experience; I owe her a lot.
Munzier Affifi was my 2nd year Calc teacher in high school, I was also his TA. He inspired me to do what I am called to do even if it isn’t the most glamorous, well paying job. He helped me to be a stay at home mom! And he taught me a lot of Calculus, Physics, and Yiddish;).
When growing up my mother was very sick with MS, it was very hard on me, the only girl in the famil iwth four brothers. My teacher Sister Lucy use to give me the litte extra attention and comfort I needed, she is the reason I am the person I am today.

i have had several teachers that made an impact.
one in particular, was an older woman who took me to her side. we had just moved and it was so scary going into a new school that I new no one.
It turned out she was a neighbor. she got to be friends with our family
My Freshman American History teacher made a huge impact on my teenage life. Not only was she a great teacher, she became a counselor to me at a time when I was haviing teenage problems, and definitely made a difference in my thinking.
My 7th grade math teacher had a big impact on me. She recommended me for an advanced math class in 8th grade and gave me some very important advice; make sure I write out all my steps when doing my problems. I feel her belief in me and her words of wisdom really helped me.
my first grade teacher, it was my first experience with serious illness, she was not in much and died during the school year however her strength and fortitude where remarkable thanks for the giveaway minsthins at optonline dot net
I had a teacher who had a big impact on my life, she was good and helped me to achieve good marks in multiplication tables even though I was lousy in math.
I will never forget her.
My kindergarten teacher really got me hooked on reading!
Mrs. Hornbacher was my 10th grade English teacher who, at the end of the year, asked me to be her secretary for 11th grade during a study hall. She saw the shy, timid girl in class and gave me the confidence to grow and become a self confident woman. Thank you Mrs. Hornbacher, bless your soul.

Wow what a great prize! I’d love to win it because I love all of hershey’s products! My favorite teacher was Mrs. Kisslinger in the 6th grade she did make a great impact on me. She was the best lady who taught us all the meaning of right & wrong among many other things. She had a lot to do with how I live my life today.
She taught us how the simple things in life are always the best.
My 3rd grade teacher left a good impression on me. She was always so kind to me. She was one of those teachers that had that perfect balance between authority figure and friend. We always knew we better listen to her but was also approachable. One thing I always remember about her is when we would ask if we could go to the bathroom and she would say, “I don’t know, can you?” That was our prompt to say “May I”. 🙂

My fifth grade teacher was very kind and helped me with my shyness.
It’s hard to be brief about it, but I have my first grade teacher to thank for me being able to read, I bet if she knew I ended up graduating from college with a degree in communications she would be proud. * Just writing this is making me cry, since I don’t know if she is still alive today or not. *
My 6th grade teacher Mr. Housman had a great impact on me. He realized that me and five other children in his class were above the normal math level. He allowed us to move past the class and before the end of the year we were doing high school level Algebra I. That made me feel good about myself, because I was only average in all the rest of my courses.
Plus he also taught us all about the stock market in the 6th grade and made us do a project pretending we had a certain amount to spend in the market. Daily through the year we kept track of how our stocks were doing and if we pretend sold or bought new ones. At the end of the year we pretended we cashed them all in and how figured out much we would have had if we’d really done this is real life.
The two top stock market winners he gave a gift certificate to go and buy a large pizza with.
He was always doing crazy science experiments, one which resulted in the whole school having to be let out for the day to air out. He broke a bottle of embalming fluid, no lie, embalming fluid. Wow, that stuck not only stank, it made your eyes feel like they were burning. No he wasn’t embalming anything. We were filling ballons with a certain amount of various fluids in each and letting them float up in the sky. We were trying to see which ones would break open first from the fluid inside getting too cold first. It was basically a chemical freezing point experiment.
He was a really fair teacher to everyone.

Mr. Elder, my 5th grade teacher, was very strict and firm and had high expectations, and that was exactly what I needed in a teacher at that time.

The teacher that had the most impact on my life is Deborah West, my middle school chorus teacher. She was not just a teacher, she was a psuedo-mother and a friend. She was there for me during a very difficult point in my life. My childhood was not a happy one, and my mother was and still is battling severe alcohol and substance abuse issues. I had no self-esteem, and I was always a very hurt and angry teen. Mrs. West took me under her wing, and she gave me the love and understanding that my own mother was not capable of giving. And it wasn’t just me she was special to…She touched the lives of everyone she taught in some way or another. (Think Mr. Holland’s Opus.) She is still very dear to me, and we still keep in touch. If I win, I plan to give this gift basket to her. 🙂 She has truly helped me become the best person I can be, despite the traumatic childhood I had. I owe her more thanks than I can ever hope to express.

My business teacher in high school, Mrs. Blacker, helped me realize my potential. She helped rid me of self-doubt.
I had an English teacher that made the whole class meditate for the first few minutes of class each day. He took us on field trips to get us in touch with nature and had his classroom colorfully decorated. He was a good teacher, but very eccentric and always gave us kids lots of good stories to tell about his classes.

I had a teacher in high school that truly listened and cared. Sadly I was already pretty messed up emotionally so I didn’t fare as well as I would have if someone had cared when I was younger. But still…his caring touched me and continues to be the voice in my head when I am feeling lost and uncared for by the world.
I am 46 and I still remember his words and genuine caring in his eyes. No one had ever tried to figure out why I had been acting out, skipping school and not even trying in school. He read 3 paragraphs I wrote on a throw away type of topic, on the first day of class and he could see I was talented, bright, and bruised. He pulled me aside and gave me a safe place to talk about the sexual abuse and intimidation I was living with.
He changed me forever. Just by listening and appearing to be sincere. I have spent many years trying to touch even one person the way he touched me. I wish he could know the effect he had on me.

when i was in 6th grade, i wanted to be in band…the concert band. problem was i had no idea how to play any instrument but i always interested in the trumpet. the band teacher, mr montesino, stayed after school and gave me extra lessons. when i reached 7th and 8th grades i entered concert band knowing how to play trumpet and even had a solo for one of concerts playing copacabana by barry manilow lol. sadly mr montesino died from stomach cancer a few years ago but i still thank him everyday for teaching to play trumpet, which led me to playing in one of the best high school marching bands in the state of florida. My college statistics teacher! I couldn’t get one of the summer classes I wanted and just picked stat to fill in. Mrs. Johnson was SO GREAT and really made me enjoy the subject. So much so that I actually ended up changing my concentration to stat. And, to fill in some credits, took some computer programming classes (same group back then). Long story short, I ended up in computers/software all because of that change and liking her classes so much.

I would say my 7th & 8th grade teacher whom I admired so much..
The teacher that stuck in my mind all these years later was my algebra teacher in the 9th grade. I was not good in math (usually C’s & B’s but mostly C’s) But in the 9th grade I had the most patient wonderful woman who explained in great detail how you worked the problems and got the answers. I went from those B’s & C’s to A’s and even A+’s. It was so crystal clear that year what I had missed in all my previous math teachers. Unfortunately, in the 10th grade I got a geometry teacher who cared less if we understood anything. He gave us the homework and the classwork and then would just sit at his desk or leave the room and we all looked at each other and none of us knew what to do. Most of us got F’s, me included. A few got D’s but nobody got higher than a C. It was the first time in my life I had ever gotten an F and it changed my whole life. I got discouraged and ended up dropping out of school because I knew I would have to repeat the 10th grade even though I had all A’s & A+’s in all my other classes. He demoralized me so bad because of that F I could not face anyone in school ever again. I did go shortly after and got my GED and got good jobs but I have never forgotten the difference between a good teacher who loved to teach and one who was just there for the money and did not want to be bothered by a bunch of kids wanting & needing to know how to solve those problems.

It was my daughters First grade teacher, she acknowledged her struggling with reading and learning and helped me get her set up for and IEP that the school was wasting time doing anything about. After she demanded they did it.

My second grade teacher made an impact on me. She inspired my love of different cultures and that love eventually led me to getting at International Studies degree in college.
One school memory stands out in my mind. In order to graduate from high school you had to jump into the swimming pool deep end and touch bottom, then swim the length of the pool. My teacher/coach took sympathy for me and put a pole that i could hold on to in the deep end, One half of the requirement accomplished I began to panic. Then she came to my rescue again with a rope to hold onto and she towed me the length of the pool. I have never tofgotten that angel in coach clothes.
I had an algebra teach who made the math click in my head and calculus was a breeze afterward,
I love hersheys
I loved my 4th grade teacher she would stay after school and give me extra help when ever I need it.

a teacher that really had an impact one me was my third grade teacher. she used to read us books out loud and it made me really fall more in love with reading and certain books. I can still remember a couple of the titles she read.

Miss Klages, my 4th grade teacher in Havertown, PA, was quite memorable. Looking back, I realize she was rather strange-looking, but she was very encouraging and inspiring to a shy only child. I remember that my parents once had her over for a picnic, and she played badminton with us–awesome!
I dropped out of high school and joined the military. I had an English teacher who insisted I get my diploma and arranged, with great difficulty, to allow me to finish my studies abroad. I received my diploma on time from my hometown high school and I can’t thank this teacher enough!
I had many teachers who were wonderful but my most unforgetably was my pharmacology instructor in Nursing School. She was Hell on wheels and instilled the fear of god in you but you learned! She also had a soft, caring side and believe me..I never look at a medication bottle that I don’t think of her!
My freshman/sophomore biology/chemistry teacher, Mrs. Gail Terrell was the most fabulous teacher you could ever meet. She encouraged my love of science and math, especially when it was not something that was the norm for girls at the time. She is the one who encouraged me to go to medical school when my parents didn’t.
Thanks for the opportunity to win CHOCOLATE… it is a joy!

The teacher that had an impact on me was my high school English teacher of my senior year… he was so wordly and smart and I desperately wanted to let him know that I thought he was a great teacher my impressing him with my essay writing abilities… I worked super hard on those darn essays.. However, he apparently just thought I was average as my grades reflected that. But I didn’t give up… I would write and rewrite and rewrite in hopes that he would acknowledge me.

The teacher who had an impact on me was my 9th grade Biology Teacher Mr. Bello. He was the first teacher who actually got me interested in school. I was never a good student but found him fascinating. I was finally getting 90s and 100s for the first time in my life. He had a lot of faith and me and wanted me to be the first to take the Biology Regents in my school. He would tudor me but the pressure was too much for me and I decided not to do it.
I still remember a lot of what he taught me and while I don’t have many memories of school. I can see his class like it was yesterday.

I had two special teachers. The first was my fourth grade teacher Mrs. Fogel. She at times would drill things in you by making you repeat them over and over again. Today I still remember money in the problem, money in the answer. She also was a stickler for good penmanship. The second teacher was a high school english teacher Mrs. Bickle who took our class to New York to see the Wiz. She gave us an appreciation for the arts.

I cannot pick just one, as so many fine teachers give us very generous different gifts of varied knowledge. Mrs. Quinn, my 3rd grade teacher, when my family moved and I did not know anyone in the class, made me feel welcomed. Mrs. Butler, my 5th grade teacher, who taught me how to focus. Mrs. English, who taught me the love of reading a variety of books and comprehension. Mr. Fitzsimmons, my 9th grade teacher, for helping me to understand math and how algebra worked.
Wow that was along time ago but the one teacher that comes to mind would have to be my 11th grade DE teacher, he was a very cool guy who taught this course that prepared you for future employment and how to save and manage your money, budgeting, I was in a job/class program that allowed us to leave school early to go to our jobs, the class was called Distributive Education and I got out of school at 10:30 am to go to work, except my job never started until 5 pm at night so I basically took the course to get out early, anyway he was very understanding and tried to teach us to save money from our paychecks, how to budget our money so we would know these things when we graduated and he was very tolerant of those who didnt have jobs after the program started, they gave everyone a certain amount of time to find a job or be dropped from the program, I liked his easy going nature and great personality, thanks for the tasty giveaway

Ms. Spencer would read aloud the book Where the Red Fern Grows to her class every year in elementary school. I was lucky enough to get her as a teacher. I have loved that book ever since. She got me started on my love of books. I also love to get books on CD from the library for car trips because I still love to be read to. 🙂
A teacher that really inspired me would have to be Mr.Broxton and Ms.Kelley. Mr.Broxton knew that I loved writing poetry and that I wanted to be a teacher when I was in the 7th grade. When moved on to the 8th grade he got in touch with me and told me about the Teacher’s academy at the high school I graduated from. If it was not for him I would have never known about the awesome program. Ms.Kelley inspired me because in college (she was my teacher acad teacher) she wrote an awesome recommendation for me to get credit. She did not have to do it.
I have also liked the Hershey Page
My high school drama teacher encouraged me far more than all my others, and wouldn’t settle for anything less than my best.

Mrs. Simmerman, my second grade teacher, saved me, and I do mean, SAVED me. I had started out so excited to go to to school only to have my dreams crushed by some teachers who were only what I could call abusive. My kindergarten teacher would yank me around by my ponytail, break pencil lead off in my hand because she was mad I was right handed and couldn’t write with my left. She would stand me before the class one day telling the other kids that I was evil and fat and not to play with me (I was actually unable to gain weight at that time and very shy, quiet, but a good kid). When St. Patrick’s Day came, she said I didn’t wear ENOUGH green, and not only did she tell the other kids to pinch me, she laughed and told me I deserved it when I cried and begged her to make them stop pinching in inappropriate places parents warn their children not to let strangers touch. I was so traumatized, I didn’t tell my parents until the following year, the night before St. Patrick’s day when I went into hysterics about having to have enough green on. This was only the tip of the ice berg and my first grade teacher was no better, throwing desks in front of my parents who tried to put a stop to her, simply because a child asked how to do a math problem.
So when second grade came around, I was terrified. Mom was talking to another mother on the first day of school who told her that I would hate Mrs. Simmerman because she was so harsh and strict. Instead, according to my Mom, when class ended that first day, I ran to her exclaiming, “Oh Mommy, I love her!” Mrs. Simmerman did run a tight ship, but she was also very kind and loving. She was every wonderful thing I had imagined school to be and more. If I struggled with something, as I did with cursive writing, she actually tried to help me do it right and encouraged me. If I had a bad day, she not only would encouraged me, but could give a hug. If she disapproved of something, she let you know in a firm but kind manner, never out of line or abusive. She never seemed to pick favorites and let everyone know when they did good, even sending home letters to parents about how well her students behaved or calling their homes to do so.
Mrs. Simmerman also did things that I know are not popular in some places today, but were what I needed at the time. Because of her, not only do I know the Pledge of Allegiance, but I The Lord’s Prayer. One particular memory still makes me smile nearly 34 years later. During that year, our school gymnasium and lunch room was still being finished so that we had to ride the bus to another local school that had already been finished to have lunch. I had given my life to the Lord the previous spring while in the first grade, on the Sunday night before Easter 1987. I knew Mrs. Simmerman loved Jesus, too, and wanted to tell her I was a Christian, too. One day on the bus, I got to sit by Mrs. Simmerman and I remember looking up at her with a big smile and kind of whispering, “Mrs. Simmerman, I’m a Christian, too!” She just looked down at me with her kind smile and said, “I know, I can tell.” I just beamed, my smile growing even bigger, because I always wanted others to see Him in me by being kind and loving to others just as I saw Him as being.

She taught me that no matter what other people say it is what I think and believe that matters. And that only I could make my dreams a reality.
She would say “Dream big Jill, You can be anything in the world you set your mind to.”

My memorable teacher was Mrs Posern in the 6th grade. She was our English teacher and one day we came to class and she had emptied out all the desks and put out tablecloths on the floor with baskets of cheese, crackers, grapes and nonalcoholic wine. We ate and she read us poetry. She really edified my love of the English language!:)

My most memorable teacher was my junior high school math teacher. He was the old fashioned sort who informed me that girls didn’t need to excel in math since it was something mainly used by boys. Yes, he was useless as a teacher, but my sense of competition gave me something to prove… he pushed me to engineering school so I guess I do need to thank him!
My kindergarten teacher, Miss Knowles, was so sweet and encouraging – thanks to her, I was able to move to 1st grade after the Christmas break.

The Teacher that most impacted me was Mrs. Estelle Bond. She was my 9th grade typing teacher. I was struggling so hard with problems at home. My parents were divorcing that year. Mrs. Bond kept me after class and talked to me and kind of followed up on me from time to time to make sure I was doing ok. She told me years later that I was the reason she decided to go into counseling!

My 4th grade teacher was wonderful. She taught me a love of reading that has lasted me a lifetime. My fourth grade teacher was the one that set me on the proper study path. Miz Floyd was a single lady with a manish hair cut and a manish suit and always wore out side of the classroom a beret. This was in the late 40’s, the boys got whacked with a ruler and the girls did not misbehave. When she finally retired in the 60’s, still in the same beret, I think about every person in her classes that spaned 50 years was at her party.
