Friday afternoon I had to take my 13 year old daughter to the doctor for a physical and four – yes four – shots. I remember how much I dreaded immunizations when both of my kids were little, and how horrible I felt when they looked at my while crying as if to say “Mommy, how can you let someone hurt me?”
Luckily my daughter is a real champ when it comes to getting shots, but my heart still felt heavy for her. It only gets a tiny bit easier as they get older. She reached for my hand while she half-jokingly said “Mommy – hold my hand please”. Anytime sweetie…
She did get four very cool band-aids though – Tweety Bird and Snoopy. She seemed happy with that.
Has it been any easier watching your children get shots as they have grown older? How do they react to getting shots?

Oh I so hate the shots! I know my sweet boy will have to get 4 when we go in this month. I don't think that it ever gets easier!!

My boys are now 19 & 15. We still dislike this activity, but we know it's a necessity in life. I've always dreaded them, but try to be the STRONG MOM!

I hate it too because I put myself in their shoes. I can't take needles!

I hate the shots part…especially when they are babies and they don't know that it's something that is going to hurt. Then comes the pain and the look in their eye, it's like they were betrayed!
Once Paige gets up to 30 lbs we get to start shots again. One every 2-3 months. It's going to be hell.

I agree! I don't think any any age watching our children get shots becomes any easier.

Yeah buddy, my 13 year old goes next week and I am going to laugh my head off. Now if he cries then I might be little more motherly and love him up.

by the time you get to the 6th kid you'd think you'd be 'over'it, but really…I am a sap when it comes to this. My 17 year old is scared stiff of needles, so I get really scared FOR her. I have had LOTs of shots and take B12 shots at home and I like to do them Nonchalantly around them so they arent so needle-phobic. I think everyone is different. It makes you wonder if it was their experiences as tiny kids that have molded their fears…some nurses are so sweet & tender, some are like Atilla. I am a mama lion when it comes to those kind. Just because something is for your own good doens't mean those giving the shots should be matter of fact about it. Kids all deserve some TLC when faced with something scary and painful…no matter what!

I just want to say first I'm found your blog from simplystacie and I am now following you because I love your blog! 🙂
Second, I have a 1 year old and a 4 year old and I hate to see them get shots!!! I think it's worse for my oldest and this summer he has to get another one before Kindergarten. I'm dreading it! I think I may send Daddy to the doctor with him to that appointment!
Hope you have a great weekend!

Even though my youngest is a little older she still hates it when her times comes for shots. I love your blog so warm and cozy with great topics!

I was always very afraid of shots for myself, for my children, for anybody. Then the day came that my late daughter needed daily injections and I had to give them to her.
I would tremble and cry. She would look at me and tell me “don’t worry mommy, it’s just got to be done”. At the age of seven, she was such an old soul and compassionate girl.
