Protect Your Laptop with Kid Lid Review

Disclosure review
Children today are exposed to a lot more technology than when I was a child.  We had computers back then, but I do not recall being able to use one until I was in at least fifth grade.  Nowadays, we have things like laptops, tablets, and smartphones, and children are exposed to them at young ages.  My girls love being able to watch videos on the computer or play games on the tablet, but they are too young to really understand how to properly use a device.  I don’t know how many times they have pressed buttons that they should not have touched, or I have had to reset the device to get back to what they were doing.  Parental controls  help, but they don’t completely prevent my girls from doing something they should not be doing on our devices.

I was given the opportunity to try out a product called the Kid Lid by Mogolo, LLC.  The idea behind Kid Lid is simple – protect your laptops and devices from interference by children by covering up the keyboard and buttons that they are most likely to press.  With a Kid Lid, you can ensure that your child can use your laptop or device without inadvertently damaging it or opening up other applications, thereby giving you more control over their use.

There are two Kid Lid designs available for laptops.  The Kid Lid Protect Board is a flat board that slips over the top screen of your laptop and hooks underneath to completely cover the keyboard and touchpad.  It is made of a thick, sturdy white plastic material (BPA-free!), and the strap to hook it underneath the laptop is elastic and removable.  The Kid Lid Fold Up Board also slips over the top of your laptop and hooks underneath to cover the keyboard and touchpad, but it can also unhooked easily and folded up if you need to use the keyboard or touchpad for anything.  It is made of a leather material with a removable elastic strap, and it comes in either black or watermelon (a fun pinkish-red color).

I had a chance to try out both the Kid Lid Protect Board and the Kid Lid Fold Up Board.  My girls were excited to get a chance to watch their favorite videos on the computer, and I was excited to see how the Kid Lids would work!  Both Kid Lids were easy to put on the computer and remove when we were done.  And they did exactly what they were designed to do – my girls were not able to push any buttons, so they were able to enjoy their videos and I was able to sit back and not worry about what they were doing to the computer.  I found that the Kid Lid Fold Up Board worked best for this use as I was able to pull it up enough to move the mouse around and start a new video for them as needed and then hook it back into place.  And when I am working on the computer and need to step away for a few minutes, it is really easy to slip on the Kid Lid Protect Board and know that my laptop is safe while I am out of the room.

I also found the Kid Lid to be helpful at my workplace.  I do a lot of typing while reading out of transcripts and other documents, so I like to have those near my computer.  I recently got a new laptop and found that I did not like the feel of the keyboard or touchpad, so I also got a new external keyboard and separate mouse to use.  However, those both take up space on my desk, leaving me with not much of an area to put the documents I need for my typing.  I brought both Kid Lids to work one day to try out, and was thrilled that I could put my documents on top of the Kid Lid and have them available right in front of me while typing.

One last benefit of the Kid Lid – protection from food and drink!  I had an unfortunate incident sometime ago involving a cup full of liquid and my laptop, and it would have been nice to have had the Kid Lid at that time to protect my laptop from my own clumsiness.  With regard to my girls, I don’t allow them to eat or drink around the laptop or while using one of our devices, but I am sure they will end up doing it sometime without my knowledge.  With the Kid Lid, I can be proactive and prevent any possible damage from them spilling on the laptop.  Also, they usually have sticky messy fingers (as is the norm for children), and the Kid Lids protect against those as well!

  1. My sister needs this. She has 3 kids under 6 and one on the way and her lap top looks like it has been through a war .

  2. In life, a change has takes a toll on things I normally do. There are a great number of reasons I’m entering, at the present time the top benefit is that of protection – protecting from food and drink! When I had an unfortunate incident sometime ago involving injury to my right upper extremity, and it would have been nice to have a laptop for medical record keeping, test results and other research. With the beginning, I don’t have much funds for a laptop that will help me in many ways, but I am sure this will help while I wait to afford a laptop. The benefit of this would prevent any possible damage from them an item spilling on the laptop. Also, being I have had to take over the kitchen duties; they’re usually having sticky messy fingers (as which are the result of preparation), and the Kid Lids protect against those as well!

  3. I need this as our 6 year old has fingers which can be so sticky at times and and transfers fingerprints to the laptop.
