The Mister has a phone that he doesn’t use except for listening to mp3s {first world problems}. And while it is nice to have access to those songs when we are driving, the phone isn’t exactly the best for sound quality. In fact, it strains to be heard over our beastly V8 engine. Needless to say, I jumped at the chance to review the Kinivo BTC450 Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit.[*]
When I hopped in our rig to set it up, I made the realization that our stereo did not have the aux plug needed to connect the device. A 3.5mm audio input, to be specific. Panic struck, I asked The Mister what to do. He looked it over and, thankfully, knew what we needed and picked up a stereo to RC adapter.
He got everything set up and our 1989 Silverado was ready to rock, thanks to Kinivo!
I love knowing that we can listen to our favorite mp3s and still be hands-free. Using the round receiver unit attached to our dash, we can skip songs, pause songs, and make/receive phone calls. Though with the little ones always with us, I am quick to give the caller warning that little ears are listening… Our friends and family members are on speaker phone, quite literally!
Drive Safe:
Driving while talking on the phone is a primary traffic offense in our state. Here are a few facts from our DOL site:
* A driver talking on a cell phone is as impaired as a driver with a .08 blood-alcohol level.
* A driver who is texting is as impaired as a driver with a .16 blood-alcohol level. That’s double the legal limit.
* Drivers talking on cell phones are half a second slower to hit the brakes in emergencies and miss more than half the visual cues seen by attentive drivers.

One is not “simply” risking a $124 fine by driving while holding a phone up to their ear… I think it is downright idiotic careless. Even if you don’t have children in your car, who’s to say you aren’t endangering a child in the car next to you? It’s not worth it.
The Mister’s thoughts on the Kinivo BTC450:
I think this is awesome. I have a Bluetooth microphone setup in my work van, but I want *this* for my van. It’d be nice to not have to use earbuds while I’m driving and still be available to take {hands-free} phone calls from the office.
Noteworthy:
* I do wish it came with a Bluetooth earpiece as well {or as an upgraded kit feature}, to give the option of a more private conversation, rather than being heard by everyone in the vehicle.
* As I mentioned earlier, the car kit requires a 3.5 mm input jack in the car stereo. If you don’t have one, make sure you can safely use an adaptor in your vehicle {like we did}.
* Compatible with all iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touch as well as Android phones, Blackberry smartphones, and all Bluetooth (A2DP/HFP/HSP) capable devices.
* We can also recharge a device while listening to music via the handy USB port!

I would love to own this Kinivo because it’s hands free. It hurts me to try and hold a phone because of the RA that has crippled my fingers, but I don’t have to tell you about pain as much as you went through. Anything that helps is awesome in my book. I also found a Kinivo EB12X Portable Rechargable Battery Pack – for iPad, iPhone, other tablets and smartphones which I liked to have to go with my hands free tri-lounge that holds my iPad for me.
