Last week, our town pretty much shut down after a foot of snow fell. Schools were closed, businesses were closed, and I actually got a day off of work. My girls are used to spending their weekdays at school or day care, so they were excited for a day home with Mom and Dad during the week. However, as I’m sure that anyone with small children will know, they got bored pretty easily being stuck in the house.

Luckily, I had just received three awesome products from
Lakeshore Learning, a company that makes fun and educational toys, games, and products for children (from infants all the way up to 6th grade)! Lakeshore Learning has lots of products for indoor fun this winter season, in different areas of interest such as arts and crafts, building and block, games and puzzles, pretend play, and science. The Lakeshore Learning products are also affordable, considering the educational and entertainment benefits they provide!

We received the following products from Lakeshore Learning:
- Read Around the House! Treasure Hunt Game;
- Number Sequencing Puzzles (1-10); and
- Spiral Art Design Center.

I know I have mentioned my oldest daughter’s obsession with anything pirate-related, so she was sooooo excited for the
Read Around the House! Treasure Hunt Game ($19.99). This game comes with a treasure chest, a pouch with thirty gold coins, and thirty riddle clues with scroll ties. The game is really easy to play, although there is some set-up required. First, you fill the treasure chest with whatever “treasure” you want your child to find. Then you choose a riddle clue to start with. The riddle clue gives you the location to hide the next clue (for example, we started with the riddle clue that led my daughter to a mirror, and the riddle clue there led her to ice/freezer, and so on). All of the riddle clues contain the first letter of the next location, so children have to recognize the letter and think of words that start with that letter to solve the riddle. Hide as many riddle clues as you want, with the final riddle leading to the treasure chest. You can even roll up each riddle clue and tie it with a scroll tie for a more authentic treasure hunt experience.

We only used six clues, as I thought that was enough for my daughter, but a longer game would be fun with a bigger group of children (maybe at a birthday party or sleepover). My daughter had a great time guessing each riddle and finding clues, and the best part was finding the treasure chest at the end (with her favorite stuffed animal inside)!

The
Number Sequencing Puzzles (1-10) ($12.99) were great for both of my girls. There were three puzzles included in the set – a spider, a bumblebee, and a grasshopper. The pieces for each puzzle are numbered one through ten in the order in which the pieces go. The pieces and numbers are also color-coded so children do not mix up the puzzles. My girls always enjoy putting puzzles together, and these puzzles added in the educational benefits of number recognition and counting. There are also puzzle sets available for older children, counting from one to twenty or one to thirty.

Finally, for children who love arts and crafts, the
Spiral Art Design Center ($19.99) is definitely something to check out. This comes with twelve spiral designers, two spiral guides, a four-color pen, and twenty sheets of paper, all contained in an easy-to-carry case. All you have to do to create beautiful spiral artwork is place a piece of paper on top of the case and lock it into place with the lid, choose a spiral designer and line it up with the spiral guide on the lid, place the pen in one of the holes on the spiral designer, and move the spiral designer around in a circle. For a more colorful spiral design, just choose a different spiral designer and different color on the pen. You can even snap in one of the other spiral guides to make smaller spiral designs.

Both of my girls spent hours creating artwork, and our fridge is covered in their spiral designs – each one unique because of the number of spiral designers and colors available. And since everything fits inside the case, I don’t have to worry about any of the pieces getting lost in our house.

If you need some help keeping your children entertained while stuck indoors this winter, then I definitely recommend the Read Around the House! Treasure Hunt Game, Number Sequencing Puzzles (1-10), and Spiral Art Design Center, or see what else Lakeshore Learning has to offer. You can buy
Lakeshore Learning products online or
