LightSpeed Outdoors Screen House Tent

Now that the chaos of the “April showers” is over, I am absolutely loving the beauty of this amazing May weather we’ve been having. We spent the afternoon playing outdoors and tending to our garden for the season and, earlier this evening, we had a picnic dinner followed by a backyard fire and some s’mores for dessert. This set of events repeats itself time and time again through late spring and the entirety of summer. We are your cliché outdoorsy family and certainly love every second of it. One particular thing that we like to add into the mix is camping. I have gone since I was a kid and though I’m all for a gorgeous hotel, kicking back and “roughing it” always makes for a great time, too. Now, having had camping as a part of my life for as far back as I can remember, I’ve been there and done it all. From way too tiny tent camping to full on motorhome and cabin stays, I have my fair share of stories to go around. With that being said, one of my favorite ways to camp is and has always been tent camping. Though I’m certainly all for modifying particular sleeping arrangements, tented camping is my personal preference because I just feel that it is true “camping.” There is just something about the idea of leaving all else aside and spending time with one another amongst the beauty of nature.

Now, while we may have had ourselves covered when it came to camping, our old, small two-person tent didn’t quite meet the needs for our new family life. Recently, however, I was given the opportunity to try out a brand new tent that was exactly that – family friendly. Allow me to introduce, LightSpeed Outdoors.

LightSpeed Outdoors is a throwback to the days when the people using the products ever day were the ones running the business. Beginning with a love of the outside lifestyle, LightSpeed Outdoors strives to develop and perfect a range of outdoor products that make the outdoors easy. It doesn’t matter if your passion takes you to the beach or the mountains, warm weather or cold, LightSpeed has a product for you.”

For us, LightSpeed stood out not only due to its family friendly products but the family friendly assembly of said products. You see, part of why our older tent wasn’t quite working well for us is the fact that trying to wrangle the little ones while simultaneously fighting with all of the pieces needed to set up the tent is darn near impossible. No matter how many times we had previously set up and dismantled the tent, for one reason or another, it was always an issue. Add to that the fact that a two-person tent simply doesn’t fit a full family and our one time outdoor shelter has quickly turned into our kids’ toy. Needless to say, we were thrilled to welcome LightSpeed Outdoors into our lives.

They recently sent along their new Compound 8 tent.

LightSpeed Outdoors Compound 8 Tent

“The Compound 8 offers three rooms divided by zippered walls, making it the most spacious LightSpeed Outdoors ten yet. The main area sets up with pre-attached poles and the compression hub system. Telescoping poles elevate the main tent upward and lock into place. Additional poles are attached to frame out the remainder of the tent. In addition to the sleeping area, a large screened porch can be used to get out of the sun or to help keep bugs at bay.”

After watching the instructional video, it was an absolute breeze to assemble.

You see, LightSpeed Outdoors products including the Compound 8 tent all feature a rather incredible technology – the compression hub system.

“At LightSpeed Outdoors we are committed to making the outdoors easy so you can spend less time hassling with your gear and more time enjoying life.”

Allowing for ultra-quick set up and tear down, this particular feature makes camping that much more enjoyable. After all, no one wants to fight with tent setup when they could be doing exactly what they’ve intended to do… enjoy the outdoors. With the Compound 8 and its easy-to-use compression hub system, we had the tent – the entire eight person capacity, seven foot tall, 285 square foot tent – set up and ready to go within five minutes! And yes, that was with the kids running around as well!

I love that the Compound 8 can be used with or without the included top making it great for day or night and for most weather conditions. During the day, the top can easily be taken off to allow for a great, cool breeze to flow through the tent. At night, however, simply placing it back on top and securing it offers instant privacy and an added layer of warmth.

Additionally, I loved the Velcro feature to further secure the tent itself to the pole supports. Having had a tent collapse on me one too many times, the way that LightSpeed Outdoors combines the use of its state of the art hub system, the standard use of poles and stakes, and the added security of ties and Velcro makes it that much greater.

Now, while we may have only been backyard camping for this particular evening, the interior of the tent was equally amazing. In addition to the obvious exterior porch area, the interior of the tent offers a full three rooms! Even before bringing anything in, the kids were thrilled with having their “own” rooms and designated areas within the massive tent. Each room came fully equipped with their own zippered, screened windows and storage pockets for the kids to use as well. Needless to say, they were quite set.

While the kids may have been quite content just as is, I’m sure that many of you know that sleeping on the cold, hard ground isn’t exactly ideal. Am I right? While I can certainly rough it with the best of them, I’d much rather prefer to be, at least, a bit comfortable. And, in this case, LightSpeed Outdoors hit it out of the park once more.

I have slept on and in my fair share of camping equipment over the years – sleeping bags, mats, blankets, cots, air mattresses, etc. – but none of them worked out all too well. The mats were too thin, the sleeping bags and blankets would end up thrown around the tent by morning, the cots had a nasty way of digging into you and/or tipping over while you slept, and I cannot even begin to tell you how many air mattresses I’ve seen lose air during the night or form horribly uncomfortable bubbles within them. Thankfully, however, LightSpeed Outdoors has an incredible line of sleep solutions that make sleeping within their tent just as amazing as the tent itself. And, in addition to the spectacular Compound 8 tent, they sent along a pair of their PVC-Free Air Beds.

LightSpeed Outdoors PVC-Free Air Bed

Now, to be completely honest, I wasn’t quite sure what the appeal was about the “PVC-free” aspect, but after receiving the product and looking a bit more into it (and laying on it!), I think I’ve figured it out. As opposed to the usual PVC materials, this LightSpeed Outdoors air bed is made using thermoplastic polyurethane or “TPU.” This TPU material is of higher quality than its PVC predecessor and, as a result, provides a greater product and a better night’s sleep for you.

LightSpeed Outdoors PVC-Free Air Bed Collage

Add to that the fact that you can truly customize your sleep by setting up the bed to coincide with your own personal preferences and I am most certainly sold. With most competitors’ products, there are only two options – full of air and ready for sleeping or not full enough. With the LightSpeed Outdoors PVC-Free Air Bed, however, you can adjust the firmness by simply adding or releasing the amount of air within the bed itself.

“We developed a patented stabilizer system that connects the top and bottom layers together to produce a bed that can be adjusted from soft to very firm, depending on your sleep preference.”

This works perfectly for those of us that have a difference in sleep needs. After all, when enjoying life out in the wilderness, comfort is usually the first luxury to go. With LightSpeed and their PVC-Free Air Bed, however, that is finally a luxury that we can hold onto. No more waking up with aches and pains because, with this, it is quite likely to be one of your most comfortable nights’ sleep yet!

LightSpeed Outdoors PVC-Free Air Bed

With one air bed in each of the tent’s two side rooms, this set-up was absolutely perfect for us. And, since the ten does fit a total of eight people, there is actually enough space for two additional air beds in the largest, middle room.

Though we may only have been backyard camping thus far, I am incredibly pleased with the quality and features of, both, the tent and the air beds from LightSpeed Outdoors. With an amazing summer full of many outdoor plans including camping, I am looking forward to what is shaping up to be our best summer yet. After all, who wouldn’t love this view?!

Now, I know that not everyone is fond of camping though, with the LightSpeed Outdoors products, it’d be quite perfect for the masses. However, one thing that we can all agree on is the sheer entertainment found in the simplicity of outdoor and backyard gatherings. Whether it is a picnic, a BBQ, a birthday celebration or, yes, even camping, one bit of common knowledge is that bugs don’t mesh all too well with any of them. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve swatted away a pestering fly or an annoying mosquito from our outdoor food table but, thankfully, LightSpeed Outdoors has taken care of that as well. And, now, in an effort to make the outdoors much more enjoyable for everyone, they are offering Eighty MPH Mom readers the chance to win their marvelous Screen House!

  • LightSpeed Outdoors compression hub system allows for ultra-quick set-up and tear-down
  • Sets up in seconds
  • 2 Large Doors
  • Oversized bag makes packing the tent effortless
  • Color: Blue

    1. I had to add another email on FB in order for the Rafflecopter to let me sign in through Facebook. I wrote them and nobody seemed to know what was wrong and how it could be fixed so I had to create a new email on Facebook. I still have both emails on my FB acct. but it is signing me in finally on Rafflecopter & giveaway tools but with another email address, same name. I am only doing daily entries on giveaways I have already entered so it doesn’t give me extra entries in this. So sorry for the confusion and glad it is fixed finally
