Merci Chocolates Celebrating Friends {with giveaway!}

I sat down the other night, contemplating friendship. So many friends in my life have come and gone. Each having a purpose in that time in my life. Some friendships are lasting. Whether it is the friend you married or the one you can call up on a moment’s notice and pour your heart out – merci chocolates wants to hear about your friends!

Personally, I feel blessed to have a handful of true friends {both offline and online}. Let’s face it. Life happens. Sometimes we may not see one another or chat on Skype for weeks – even months. But we always pick up where we left off; laughing, sharing stories, and truly enjoying each other’s company. Conversations with my friends are fulfilling, uplifting, and honest. I may not have a long sorority list of girlfriends – but the friendships that I do have are solid. And that means the world to me.

Did you know that National Friendship Week was August 11th? I had no idea until it was too late. *whoops* Or was it? Just because we missed it, doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate our friends today and EVERY day! Why not send a friend a “just because” gift? That’s much more my style anyway…

Merci sent me a Friendship Kit recently, which included a 7 ounce box of their European assorted chocolates. Since The Mister *technically* is my longest lasting friend, I thought it would be fitting to gift him with the merci chocolates. I’m nice like that.

The Mister’s Honest and Slightly Long-winded Thoughts:

To say that I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to certain pleasures in life would be a mild understatement. Chocolate is no exception and I’ve gone through great pains to find chocolates that are worth my time to sample from time to time. The Misses asked me to sample these chocolates by merci and I had mixed feelings about what was received.

First and foremost, the presentation was elegant and remarkable. Ordered simplicity with uniform layout and intelligent design. After all this is an assortment and my experience with chocolate assortments is probably not dissimilar from yours. Those brown corrugated wrappers with the chocolate resting inside and then an insane roadmap on the lid identifying which chocolate is where and you can’t decide which way the lid represents what you are looking at. Is it upside down? Is it face down? Curses to that nasty strawberry again!

None of that insanity is found with these merci chocolates, but the real question remains, how did they taste? Here are my thoughts on a few:

– Amer a la Crème – simply amazing. Smooth, rich, satisfying and amazing with a cup of coffee. I wish everyone in the package was this.

– Marzipan – worth having a second or third time but nothing remarkable

– Lait fourre praline – not as good as the others, in my opinion. It had a very artificial flavor to it.

– Milk chocolate – very good and I don’t even like milk chocolate but I found myself grabbing for a second one immediately afterward. Probably one of the better milk chocolates I can recall from memory.

Would I buy from merci? If they had Amer a la Crème by the bar you can bet I’d buy that on a weekly basis! That stuff was a stunner. If you are prudish and picky about your chocolates you won’t find this package disappointing. If you just love chocolate no matter what, you will find this to be a divine set of cocoa goodness.

    The export era begins
The age of export begins: particularly Storck’s filled candies are highly desired. The main markets are the USA, Sweden and Hong Kong. In addition, there are licenses for many Storck products in Italy, France and Austria.

More than 100 outside sales people provide for the company’s sales.

  19. I would like to try the Merci Petits, but I don’t think they are available in the US. I love the assorted box of Merci Chocolates and the Cream Truffle is my favorite.

  20. merci Crocant

The finest merci chocolate with a centre of crunchy hazelnut and cream croquant with almonds.

This sounds really good. It would also make a great Christmas present ..at least a bunch of them.

  21. I’d just LOVE to try the Merci Petits… it looks like they’re not available in the US though 🙁 It’s too bad, I’ve tried the variety packs like the one featured in this review and I really liked the chocolate. The hazelnut creme ones were to DIE for, seriously.
