I have an iPhone 3GS that I purchased about 1 1/2 years ago. It has been a good phone for the most part – it is my constant companion and I never leave home without it. Oh who am I kidding, I don’t leave the couch without it either. I have come to rely on it for just about everything, including keeping me organized.
I have been trying to upgrade my iPhone 3G to the OS4 to make my phone the most recent version out there (aside from buying the 4G iPhone), however it WILL NOT let me update. It gets stuck about 1/4 of the way through the update and just will not finish. Many people have said that I’m better off just keeping it the way it is, and I would be okay with that, except I am noticing that many of the ‘cool’ apps I want are not compatible with the iPhone 3G.
For the past couple of days, my battery power goes so incredibly fast – even on a full charge. It has also really begun to lag, freeze and do some other weird things.
So now the big question, what do I buy? Â iPhone 4G or an Android model? My carrier is AT & T, so that probably limits my choices. Â I believe the Captivate is the only Android that AT & T carries currently.
I have a few friends with the Android, and I have to say they are pretty neat. On the red carpet trip I took recently, many of the bloggers had Androids. I am fascinated with several of the features, and am kind of leaning towards one of them. But which model do I want? Captivate? What others are there that AT & T carries?
I love the ‘swype’ feature for texting, that is available on Android. I also love the quality of the pictures taken on them. The iPhone pictures suck. They just do. The Android also has a bigger screen and just looks clearer to me.
My concerns if I were to get an Android: What about the apps/games that I love so much on the iPhone, that aren’t available on Android? What about iTunes? How do you get/play music on an Android? I am afraid I will miss many of the iPhone features if I make the big switch, but at the same time, I know I will fall in love with the features of the Android. Â Here are my questions:
- Do you have an Android? If so, what model? What do you like most about it? Least?
- Do you have an iPhone 4G? What features does it have that the 3G model doesn’t have? Would you recommend it?
- If you were able to do the OS4 upgrade on your iPhone 3G – did you have any problems? Do you like OS4? Would I be better off going to the AT & T store and having them update it instead of buying a new phone?
- Have you made the change from iPhone to Android? What was the hardest part about switching? Pros/Cons?
So many burning questions – I’m hoping you can help me out!

I like my iPhone 4 and my husband (3GS) gets jealous of my display. I do think his is faster though. AT&T is less than desired with our dropped calls but I think Verizon customers will fare better with the antennae problem fixed. We have friends with Android and they are just wannabe fakers 😀
LOL well that is interesting to hear about the iPhone 4. You think the 3G is faster? Is the display clearer on the 4, or screen bigger? Thanks for your input!
I’m interested to read the responses too – I’m ready to take the plunge and get a new phone but I’m not sure if I want to be stuck with AT&T.
I really do like AT & T, and I would like to stick with them. I hope others will reply too…
I have a Droid and with all the apps and almost constant connection (wherever and whenever) you can’t go wrong-but the carrier is Verizon…
I got the Droid X from Verizon right before Christmas. I absolutely love it. I am trying to figure out the best music app so I can ditch my iPod. I use the Droid for reading (Amazon Kindle), Facebook, gmail, camera, GPS, video and calorie/exercise counting.
In love with my Droid.
