OxiClean Dishwashing Booster – did it help me?

Below is a true story.  A sad one, yes, but definitely true.  I have had issues with my dishwasher (so I thought) for awhile now, and I recently tried OxiClean Dishwashing Booster to see if it might solve my problem.

I am a stickler for sparkling clean dishes (as most of us are, I’m sure). The problem I have is that my teenage daughter is in charge of loading, running the dishwasher, and unloading the dishes. That is not the issue, but the results are a big issue for me. Our dishwasher is probably about 7 years old, but it should still be doing its job, regardless of how my daughter is doing her job.

The problem

Over the past year or so, our dishes haven’t been coming out clean at all (of course my daughter puts them in the cabinet anyway). I get really frustrated each time I reach for a glass or plate, only to find specks of food and spots on them. It is really disgusting and I have to rewash things by hand, which defeats the purpose of having a dishwasher! I have showed my daughter what happens when dishes aren’t rinsed  before being placed in the dishwasher, but the problem persists.

Hmmm good to know!

Did you know that in 2010, dishwashing detergents received a mandate to rework their formulas and remove phosphates – the industry’s chosen grime fighter? I was unaware of this, but it all makes sense now as to why our dishes are not as clean as they used to be. Apparently many consumers have even replaced their dishwashers, thinking this would solve the problem (and I have also thought about replacing mine!). I am so glad I didn’t do this, and I just wish I had known about this mandate sooner.

I was really excited to try OxiClean Dishwashing Booster, and I was desperately hoping it would work, so I could stop being so worked up about the dishes. I have tried SO many products to help our spotty dishes, but have had no luck. OxiClean claims to boost the performance of your dishwashing detergent to remove the cloudy film, food particles, spots, and streaks that detergent alone can leave behind. This sounds like exactly what I need. Better yet, it also cleans the dishwasher!

Did OxiClean work?

I put out some crackers and spreadable cheese for my family to enjoy, on a clear plastic serving tray. I made it a point to spread the cheese really hard and I let it sit for awhile (after we were done snacking), so I could really test the results.

I put a couple of squirts of OxiClean directly into the bottom of the dishwasher (as recommended for the first use), and also filled the receptacle all the way to the fill line (I also spilled a little – maybe my excitement made me do this):

I loaded the try into the dishwasher, along with other dirty dishes and  I ran the normal cycle. I was anxious to see the results! I was so pleasantly surprised to see how clean the dishes were. I might have even danced, I’m not sure. I have been waiting a LONG time for results like this and am just over the moon excited.

I can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that if we have company over and someone reaches for a glass, they will find sparkling ones. The fear (and embarrassment) on my part is no longer there, as I am confident that my dishes will be the kind of clean that I expect them to be, each and every time.

Do you use a dishwashing booster?  What are your results like? I’m also curious to learn if you have tried OxiClean and what your results were like.  I am a customer for life…there is no going back now, as I never, ever want to get so frustrated over dishes again!

  1. Oh my gosh, me too! We bought a little bit better dishwasher a few years back and I was SO disappointed in the way it worked…or should I say did NOT work! We have always used the same soap so thought of course it had to be the machine. Geeesh…that’s what we get for not reading up on the new regulations as far as companies being more environmentally friendly. I have been washing by hand also, especially the glasses. I will definitely give this a try! We have to be pretty frugal with a big family so we always have foregone the extra rinse treatment for the dishwasher. But then again, if you are always rewashing, you are using hot water and liquid dish soap anyway. Plus so much lost time and being frustrated too. Thanks for the review on this one !

  2. We have some of the same issues with our dishes, too. Except when I load and unload; I’m a stickler for squeaky clean dishes. I’m actually pretty OCD about it. Lol
