Light Up Your Child’s World with Philips and Disney Imaginative Lighting Products – Review

There are so many neat products for children nowadays, especially with all the advancements in technology since I was a child.  I am constantly amazed by some of the products I see out there!

I recently had the chance to try some new imaginative lighting products from Philips and Disney – the Friends of Hue StoryLight and SoftPals.  Both products incorporate Philips lighting and technology with your favorite Disney characters in fun ways.

The Friends of Hue StoryLight is a neat Mickey Mouse shaped product that hooks up with your iPad or iPhone and projects colorful lights to go along with your favorite Disney stories.  Ok, maybe I should back up and tell you how it works.  First, you need to download the “Disney Storytime” app from the App Store.  The app comes with three free Disney books, and other books are available for purchase.  Then you plug in the StoryLight, open a book on your iPad or iPhone in the Disney Storytime app, connect to your wi-fi, and go!  The StoryLight provides different color lights to coordinate with the different parts of the story.  You can also move an icon around on the iPad or iPhone screen and the light will match the color on the screen.  My girls loved reading the stories and seeing the lights that go along with the stories.  My oldest daughter especially liked changing the colors herself (“Look, Mommy, it’s green!”).  And since the StoryLight uses soft LED light, it was great for reading a story before bed.  Fun for everyone!

Then there are the SoftPals, which are portable LED nightlights in different Disney characters (we got Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, but there are also Sully and Mike from Monster’s Inc.).  I was so excited to try the SoftPals because my oldest daughter has been having trouble sleeping by herself in her room lately, claiming that she is “scared of the dark” (despite having a nightlight in there).  We put a SoftPal in her room and it was great.  It sits in a platform that is plugged in so it can stay charged and provide a soft light all night long.  If my daughter needs to get up for any reason, she can just take the SoftPal off of the platform and turn it over to maintain its light.  This is way better than her laying in bed crying when she gets scared and waking up her little sister.  Plus, who doesn’t love Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse?

Again, I am amazed by the technology that goes into these products and my girls love them as well!  The Friends of Hue StoryLight sells for $159.95 and it can be used with other Philips Hue products.  The SoftPals sell for $24.95 each.  Connect with Philips on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube.
