Okay, so this is kind of a strange title for a blog post. Did you think the post would be about dragonflies wearing mascara? Nope…although that would be intriguing! This is a story about a special black duck and a gorgeous red dragonfly 🙂
I am thoroughly enjoying our 2nd home. I have posted before about how much fun I had decorating the new house, but there is so much more I enjoy here. It is completely relaxing! One of my favorite things to do is sit in on the patio in the backyard and observe nature.
We had two geese friends (Vlad and Vera Wing) but they have gone on to bigger and better things, I suppose. Our newest friend is Maybelline. She is a duck with a really fun personality. She walks (waddles?) with a purpose, and she is hilarious. She is usually accompanied by two mallards boys, and they are very sweet too. Maybelline knows her name when we call her and she comes swimming right over, then runs up the grass to greet us. This is Maybelline:
And while I was chillin’ outside the other day, I noticed this bright red dragonfly on the drip line. I see blue dragonflies all the time at our other house, but have never seen a red one before. Check it out!

I’m still smitten with Maybelline; I wish I could adopt her for myself cause she’s just the cutest and unique thing! I can’t say I’ve ever seen an all black duck before.
I can honestly say I’ve never seen a red dragonfly like that before either! I think you’ve got some truly unique creatures at your second home 🙂
Oh Maybelline is beautiful and those red dragonflies are neat…I’ve seen some different colors of them but I don’t think red.
That’s the coolest dragonfly I’ve ever seen!
I had to comment on this one because just today Graham had a red dragon fly land on his shirt while we were at the lake. We were both able to hold in on our finger and it would NOT fly away. I thought maybe it was injured, but when we placed it on the grass he fluttered right back up to Graham! So sweet!
Wow! I didn’t know there were red dragon flies! I wonder what other colors I’ve missed…….
