SmartLab Room Defender Helps Kids Keep Unwanted Visitors Out!

When I was younger, our house telephone was in the hallway right outside my bedroom (this was way before cell phones and even cordless phones).  My brother and sister, in their never-ending quest to annoy me, thought it would be funny to use my bedroom as their own personal telephone booth.  They would go into my room, close the door, and talk for hours on the phone.  Despite all of my efforts to keep them out (hanging big “Do Not Enter” signs on my door, tattling to my parents, and just acting like a big pain in the butt when they were on the phone), nothing worked.

Fast forward twenty-some years, and I have finally found something I could have used to keep them out of my room – the SmartLab Room Defender!

The SmartLab Room Defender is like a security system for kids so they can keep unwanted visitors out of their rooms.  It is an electronic device that can be mounted on any door, and it has a lot of neat programmable features!

The SmartLab Room Defender is fairly easy to use.  It comes with an easy-to-follow instruction manual for mounting and programming the device.  Kids can set their own 3-digit secret access code, choose a sound effect to play when someone rings the doorbell button on the device, record messages to play when the door is opened, set a secret knock or an alarm, and program three key cards for those who they wish to allow access to their rooms.  There are even programs where kids can receive “door-mail messages” (like voice mail messages) and link some of the features together for even more fun!

I enjoyed playing around with the SmartLab Room Defender, listening to the various sound effects available, and recording messages.  Obviously, my daughters are too young to use it properly, but I think it would be fun for older kids, especially to keep little siblings out of their rooms.  And since it involves computer programming skills, it is educational as well as fun.

If you know a kid who would enjoy using the SmartLab Room Defender, you can buy it online for $39.99, or check out other SmartLab Toys educational products.  You also have a chance to win a SmartLab Room Defender of your own below!

  8. My son would love this toy. I think he would get a kick out of the doorbell. He loves robotic things so I think he would have a fun time programming it.

  9. Why does the child I wish this for “need” this? Well, she has already cried to us, I do NOT want my cousin in my room when she comes over! She breaks EVERYTHING. And indeed, she does. We have begun to lock her out of that room…
This room defender would surely be a hit here!

  10. This is awesome!!! My 10 year old has signs all over his door telling my 11 year old to keep out.

One says, ‘make like a cake and beat it’! What that means I have no idea LOL

    I love this product!

  11. At the moment, my son doesn’t need this because he’s a toddler. However, if I win, I will be giving this to a 10 year old who I know would really get a kick out of using it to keep folks out.

  12. My daughter would use it to keep the dog from sneaking up on her when she is in her room. She would record a scary/loud message on it and if he nudged the door it would go off and she would know he was there.

  13. I like that kids can set their own 3-digit secret access code, choose a sound effect to play when someone rings the doorbell button on the device, record messages to play when the door is opened, set a secret knock or an alarm, and program three key cards for those who they wish to allow access to their rooms.

  14. My oldest would love this. He’s getting to an age where he doesn’t want his little brother to pester him anymore.

  18. this girls need this to keep thier brother out of thier room! He likes to go in there and lay in thier beds and watch tv!

  19. This would not deter my 3yr old son from getting into his 12 year old sisters’ room. The girls (they are triplets) couldn’t keep him out if they tried. But put something electronic on the door and you might as well invite him in. He’s a tech lover lol.
