Summer is quickly approaching and unless your school district participates in year-round education so much is lost over those 3 months. Paige has worked awful hard this school year in Kindergarten. Spelling, reading, math and science – she’s simply learned so much and I’d love to help her retain that info during summer break. Super Duper Publications has fun, educational offerings to consider for leisurely summertime learning.

Often called the summer slide, games by Super Duper can offer much needed review for those who struggle with reading, auditory processing and language. Better yet, these boxed games and fun decks go anywhere — sitting in a restaurant, waiting at the airport or playing in the backyard with siblings.
We had the chance to try out Granny’s Candies and Sentence Fill-In Fun Deck.
Granny’s Candies is a game of word meanings for grades K-6. This fun and educational board game consists of the chance to pick colorful candy tokens from Granny’s candy jar all while expanding vocabulary skills. Players choose question cards from one of eight semantic areas:
- What belongs in this group?
- Which one doesn’t belong?
- Give a describing word.
- How are they alike?
- What do these have in common?
- What is this used for?
- How are they different?
- Give an action word.
See what I mean? With 672 word meaning cards, the fun keeps going and going! Players answer the questions, roll the die and then pick candy from the jars. The player with the most candy at the end of the game wins! Not only is there plenty of learning regarding vocabulary and word meanings but there is the opportunity to use math skills as well! We count the different colors and then I’ll ask Paige if she has more or less of another color.

Included with this game is lesson/activity book. Granny’s Candies retails for $54.94 and while that could be considered pricey, it’s worth it in my book. The quality and educational value is top notch. Plus, I like that we’re playing a game…and learning at the same time.Â

We also received the Sentence Fill-In Fun Deck.  The Sentence Fill-in Fun Deck contains 224 different sentences that encourage students to learn parts of speech and sentence structure. There are 56 illustrations in which your child can finish four sentences that describe the picture scenes with a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb. Geared for children in grades 1 and up, Paige is a little young, but we don’t let that stop us!

Each card teaches one part of speech. There are:
- 18 noun cards
- 10 adjective cards
- 18 verb cards
- 10 adverb cards
To break it down – cards with solid borders have four sentences that are missing the same part of speech. Students complete each of the sentences using one of the four words listed under the picture. The cards with checkered borders use the same picture scene and sentences, except there are three different answer choices given for each of the four sentences. Only one of the three choices completes the sentence correctly.

Included are game ideas and content cards. I like this game because the cards are stored in a sturdy storage tin. Perfect for travel! Sentence Fill-in Fun Deck retails for $29.95.
Super Duper Publications has all kinds of fun learning material for kids!
