Loud Television Commercials
There is quite a stir going on about the new JC Penney commercial (with people screaming), that is currently running on television. It is promoting changes in JC Penney stores come February 1st. I saw their commercial the other night and immediately reached for the remote to mute it as fast as I could. Not only did it bother me, but my cats (who were all on my bed) freaked out. I mean really freaked out. The commercial blindsided me and was just so noisy. Why was it so bothersome? Screaming. Lots and lots of screaming. If you have been lucky enough not to see it yet, here it is:
Apparently I am not the only one who despises this commercial – there are plenty of complaints all over the internet. Some parents have even complained that it upsets their Autistic children, and it stresses out people with PTSD and other disorders. Pet owners (like me) are saying that it scares their pets. Many people also claim that they will no longer shop at JC Penney if this commercial isn’t removed. There are thousands of comments and complaints on the JC Penney Facebook page, with people begging for this annoying commercial to be removed. Yet, so far there have been no replies from JC Penny in regard to these complaints.
I have always loved JC Penney, and still do. I will always be a loyal customer, but they really must rethink this type of commercial (as do all companies). I am surprised this screaming commercial ever got the “okay” from a higher up at the company. Please JC Penney…I beg of you. Take that commercial down. Burn it, chuck the film into a lake, flush it, whatever you have to do – just get rid of it.
I sometimes wonder if I suffer from sensory overload, because these types of loud, annoying and maybe even scary commercials really are bothersome. Here is another example of a commercial that just about drove me up the wall over the holidays:
Do these companies honestly think that they are getting our attention by running such annoying commercials? Well they obviously have gotten our attention, but most likely not the kind they want.
Speaking of loud commercials, why do they play so loudly?? I am constantly grabbing the remote to turn the tv up when my show comes back on, and way down when a commercial comes on. Luckily I do have a DVR, and can fast forward through commercials, but if I am watching live television, or if I am listening to tv while I am cooking, the noise is really disturbing.
Just say “no” to obnoxious commercials.
What are your thoughts on the latest JC Penney commercial?

OMG how funny that you wrote this today… I JUST posted on JCP’s FB page to get rid of this horrible commercial. =)
I absolutely ABHORE it… I love my DVR just for commercials like this (and that Ebay one). I rarely watch live TV anymore, but when I do, I have my remote handy for the mute button.
I have to share this local one with you… the little girl at the end is so obnoxious and has been doing the commercials since you couldn’t understand her: http://youtu.be/0jZ4_JoA1wc
BTW, I keep forgetting to tell you how much I love your blog redesign – Greg did a great job. =)
Oh LOL yeah she is a little annoying too 🙂 I really hope JC Penney pulls this ad. I agree with you, but it’s a shame we have to have our remote in hand at all times, just for these types of commercials!
Thanks for your kind words about my blog design. That Greg is something else!
The JCP ad doesn’t bother me & my autistic daughter isn’t phased by it either. Now that Christmas ad on the other hand annoyed me.
We mute the TV every time that this commercial comes on. I do not like it at all and it really bothers me that this was the best that they could come up with. I have a feeling that I am not going to enjoy this new pricing idea that they have.
Haha – thanks for pointing this out. My husband and I have been changing the channel whenever it’s come on for the past few weeks. I listen to screaming kids all day long – the last thing I want to hear is grown ups screaming when I’m trying to relax at night and watch tv.
Isn’t that the truth! I can’t stand screaming, loud noise, etc. That is a really good point!
I’m surprised this one didn’t make your list: http://youtu.be/mcr2uWkJkzI 😉
OHHHH that is horrible! I have never seen this one before, but yeah, it definitely belongs on my list! I just don’t see the need for SCREAMING! LOL thanks for sharing that (I think 🙂
This is the first i heard of the JC Penney commercial but now i bet i will see it all the time haha 🙂
Yes,that Samsung spider one is the one that i hated…i would actually feel angry when it would come on tv and i couldn’t change the channel in time!
It makes me think JCP is not a class act at all. This is how they want to see themselves? I am trying to shop other places.
I haven’t seen this one but I love the PVR so I can skip all commercials.
I have seen it. And I agree, I hate it. But they get their point across.
I just watched it here and I hope I never see or HEAR that commercial again!
Oh lucky you! Sorry that I had to be the one to introduce you to it lol.
Not their best ad campaign.
I really dislike car alarm company ads…we’ve got an obnoxious one here that thinks that filling their 60-second spot demonstrating their blaring alarms is a good way to lure customers.
Um…not really. Just gets the channel switch or mute button.
Oh that would annoy me too…and cause me to NOT use their service!
It is a pretty terrible ad. There is one commercial that the Gamefly service ran about a year ago that was equally terrible; it had a bunch of guys screaming and crying because they were playing lousy video games.
I do agree it is annoying and honestly if I didn’t know the hype about the JCPenney changes from the net I wouldn’t have understood the commercial. Though I have to admit it is getting a response that will get JCPenney noticed.
I would not change my shopping habits based on the commercial and am interested to see how the change pans out and if it can become mainstream.
this commercial makes me never want to shop at JC Penney. So annoying.
LOL I would say the same if I didn’t love JCP so much. I will continue to shop there, but hopefully their ads in the future will be more tasteful 🙂
I haven’t been to JCP since their “switch”…what did you think of the new pricing system?
I had my say about that nasty commercial both on the net and I phoned customer service. I was so thankful when it stopped. I noticed the new ads a few times before I realized it was JCP ‘s doing. What a way to get our attention. I believe it was all planned and it worked but please don’t do that again. EVER! I will return to the store this time but not if it is done again.
