Our lives are at an interesting point right now, and we have so many financial questions. My husband will be retiring in two years, and my daughter will be starting college at the same time. My son attended Cal Poly back in 2008 for two years, then decided it wasn’t for him. It seems like just yesterday that he was touring the Cal Poly campus, so it is hard to believe that he is now interested in attending a state college again (five years later). He has been working on his portfolio and wants to attend an Art college in September. Needless to say, we have some serious financial matters coming up, and along with those come questions. Lots and lots of questions.
Thank goodness I have discovered the Wells Fargo Community! It is an online forum where you can ask questions about financial topics and even share your own knowledge. I really love this community and I feel safe asking questions there. I do not feel like I am being judged at all and I have learned so much in just a short amount of time.
Since we will have two kids attending college within about 1 year of each other, we are trying to learn everything we can about scholarships, grants, etc. to reduce the burden on our bank account.
We have had our last few home loans through Wells Fargo, and have been so happy with them. I am thrilled that they put together the Wells Fargo Community for anyone though (you don’t have to be a customer to use it!). Actually you don’t even have to be a member of the community – you can look around and see what is in there without signing up. Of course if you do want to post a question or answer you will need to sign up (which is SUPER easy and quick).
Another thing I really like about the Wells Fargo Community is that you are able to read questions and answers from people with all kinds of backgrounds. Everyone on the community is not a “one size fits all”, and it is nice to get different perspectives from folks from all walks of life. There are also plenty of specialists on hand to answer those really tough questions. And finally – there is no drama! Everyone is respectful and helpful.
I HIGHLY encourage you to sign up for the Wells Fargo Community (WellsFargoCommunity.com), and either search for your interests, or just browse to see what topics are already available. Many times you will find that your question has already been answered! Since you will be notified when someone replies to your topic, you do not need to worry about your question/answer being buried in the other topics.
Here is an example of a few recent topics from the Education Planning/Student Loans area (which I tend to be in the most!):
When my son first attended college, his grandmother paid for the whole thing. It was awesome! This time around though, it is on us. Only us for both of our kids. We really didn’t even know how to start or how to beginning planning for this huge financial burden that is about to take place. We can certainly help with their college tuition, but unfortunately we cannot pay the whole tuition for both of them. To say that we are overwhelmed would be an understatement. Trying to figure out the steps we need to take, the forms we need to fill out, etc. is completely mind boggling.
The Wells Fargo Community is helping us understand our education planning options though, and that is comforting. We will have our kids join the community as well so they can be a part of it and know exactly what needs to be done (after all, they need to do some of the legwork too!). Between my husband and myself, our kids, and the college counselors and financial advisors available on the Wells Fargo Community, I think we will be okay.
Whether someone is preparing for college, in college, or done with college, their questions will be answered. The Wells Faro Community addresses topics such as: finding the right college, saving for college, choosing a major, and even life after college preparation.
There is a certain peace of mind knowing that there is a community out there where I can ask all of the questions I want, and knowing that I will receive answers quickly. I feel much more informed about the college planning aspect than I did before joining the Wells Fargo Community. When we are a little bit closer to retirement (in a year or so), you can be sure that I will be depending on this community once again!

I think this is a wonderful service and would have loved to have it around when my kids went to college. And these days with college costs skyrocketing, every little nit of knowledge on how to cope with that is helpful.

This is definitely a financial issue that is affecting my family as well! My parents told my sister and I they would pay for two years of community college for the both of us, but after that it was up to us! Next thing they knew, they were being forced to sign a parent pus loan for my sister when she went away to a 4 year college o.O
And of course they can’t really do anything for me because I can’t go to school and online classes are CRAZILY expensive.
This would have been a great service when I was growing up. I may have followed a different path in life. One never knows. Thank you so much for sharing this!

I think this is a great post, good look with financing your children’s educations. I know that by the time I graduated, I had a lot of debt from loans. I waited awhile after graduating (5 years) before going to college so I did not qualify for all the scholarships and such.
I am such an anti Wells Fargo consumer its not funny….I hate their business policies. Good that you are getting good feedback though!
We have our home mortgage though them but I was not aware of the community. I’m sure they probably sent me an email about it but sometimes when I’m busy I tend to scan through them as opposed to reading them. I’m lost when it comes to financial things so I will definitely check this out.
I use Wells Fargo also. I hope your son doesn’t lose interest in his next endeavor.
I really applaud your son for his decision to go back to school. I had the chance to go to college and didn’t take it and really regret the decision now that it is too late. Thank you for the information about the Wells Fargo Community. I’ll remember it if I need it in the future.

I have heard Wells Fargo had a community but hadnt really read much about it until now.
Grants, scholarships and everything else is pretty confusing the first time around and without good planning it could take forever to [ay back un needed loans.
Looks like they offer a lot more than I thought.
