VTech Safe & Sound Video and Audio Monitor Review

March 16, 2012 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

vtech

I’ve never owned a video monitor, we have always had the standard audio monitor. Our monitor  broke and eventually got chewed on by the dog, so we haven’t had one for over a year now. I miss having extra ears near my son! its fantastic to have extra eyes too!! I was incredibly excited to review the VTech Safe & Sound Monitor, as it has more features than I could think of!

infant video monitor

The VTech Safe & Sound Full-Color Video and Audio Monitor (VM321, MSRP: $149.95) provides a full audio/visual monitoring solution with up to 1,000 feet of range. Other unique features include a split video screen, enabling simultaneous viewing from up to four separate cameras with the purchase of additional cameras (VM310, MSRP: $49.95), along with infrared night-vision as well as a two-way intercom system to let the little one hear parents’ voices, polyphonic lullabies to play and a temperature sensor.

When it first arrived, I was surprised at how easy it was to set up, you just plug it in an outlet or use the battery included. Noah enjoyed watching Riker (our dog) through the screen in the dark! The infrared night-vision works great, it is one of the brightest night-vision screens I’ve ever seen. My favorite feature was the Talk-Back Intercom System, you can talk to your baby through the monitor! Soothe your baby back to sleep without going into the nursery, tell your toddler to go back to sleep, or yell at the dog to stop chewing on the baby’s toys! I could find multiple uses for that one feature.

Here are a few more features.

  • The sound can be adjusted to vibrate, to peacefully alert you to baby’s movements.
  • Accurate temperature sensor of baby’s room.
  • Six level sound indicator.
  • Polyphonic lullabies – (I didn’t know what polyphonic meant so naturally I googled it, just in case you want to know too it means Music composed of relatively independent melodic lines or parts) Vtech Safe and Sound Monitor features 5 polyphonic lullabies!
  • The video monitor can function with 4 AA batteries for up to 4.5 hours of video streaming. I would recommend keeping it plugged it, or purchasing rechargeable batteries (note: rechargeable batteries saved my life with the Vtech Innotab my son LOVES)
  • You can zoom!
  • The Vtech Safe and Sound Monitor can have up to FOUR cameras for one system. You can view each camera individually or have a quad view split screen!
  • High Resolution 2.8″ Color LCD screen.
  • Full Motion Video – Up to 22 frames per second of full color, never miss any movement.
  • Included is a wall mount system that allows you to turn and swivel.
  • Super extended range up to 1000 feet!
  • Digital Transmission, a 2.4GHz Frequency Hopping Digital Spread Spectrum system digitally transmits both the audio and video signals. No annoying white noise sound. You only hear the sounds coming from your baby. All transmissions are encrypted for your privacy and security. You mean I can’t listen to my neighbors blarring radio through my monitor anymore?? O rats! haha

You can learn more about the Vtech Safe and Sound Video Monitor and purchase it at www.babymonitors.vtech.com. The Vtech Safe and Sound Video Monitor is very reasonably priced at $149.95, I did a little research on prices and could not find a better monitor for the price! There are too many features to compare to any other monitor!
