Walmart Family Mobile Review – Unlimited Plans, no contracts, no worries!

October 1, 2023 by Jennifer 45 Comments

Read this review before signing up for Family Mobile Walmart. We’ve got everything you need to know and how you can get the most from your plan. Looking for a cheap wireless plan with no contract? Try my family mobile plan from Walmart!

We are a family who depends on smartphones, and to say that our mobile phone bill is high would be an understatement. Lately we have been considering switching.

Walmart Family Mobile Review

I recently learned about a my family mobile plan that requires no contract!

Walmart Family Mobile would allow us to buy smartphones and pay the bill monthly. I think this is a fantastic idea, and one that is sure to save the average family money each month.

We would be able to do so many other things with the money we save with Walmart Family Mobile.

All locations may not offer every Walmart Family Mobile plan option and models. I was pleased to see that the iPhone is an option.

When you choose to take advantage of Walmart Family Mobile, you can either buy one of the available phones under the plan, or you also have the option of keeping and using the phone you already have. We switched all of our phones to Walmart Family Mobile.

In addition to the iPhone, there are some other really nice phones to choose from with Walmart Family Mobile. The phones range in price from $29.88 to $649.88.

The first two Walmart stores I went to didn’t have the phone I wanted in stock, but I did find it at the third store, thank goodness. I also picked up the starter kit (which is required to use Walmart Family Mobile plans).

Walmart Family Mobile Plans

The next step was to choose a plan. I decided on the unlimited talk, text and web for $39.88.  The other option was the Talk & Text plan for $29.88.  I filled out my name and billing address, chose to get a new phone number (you also have the option of keeping your old number), and I was all set. It was super easy and took me all of 5 minutes (after I had inserted the battery and SIM card in the phone).

Walmart My Family Mobile

When you choose a Walmart Family Mobile plan, you will not be tied into an annual contract, and there are no overages. You can mix and match plans to create the perfect plan for YOUR family.

You might choose unlimited talk & text, or Unlimited talk, text & Web – it is up to you. I love the idea of customizable and unlimited plans! I am having fun playing with my new myTouch phone, and am very impressed with all that is can do, especially since it was so inexpensive, and so far I am loving Walmart Family Mobile!

How To Get Started

If you are ready to save money on your family’s mobile phone bill, it is easy to get started:

  • Choose a plan
  • Choose a phone (or you can even use your own compatible device)
  • Buy a Starter Kit (you will need a starter kit for each line you want to activate – this one-time fee costs $25 each)
  • Pay at the register! You can choose to activate your plan in-store or online from the convenience of home (which I did).

In addition to the phone and starter kit, you may wish to purchase an Extras Pack which will allow you to play games, purchase ringtones, take advantage of long-distance calling and international roaming to select countries.

Another really nice thing about the plans is that there is no credit check required. A good friend of mine has terrible credit (through no fault of her own – long story), but when she wanted to get a smartphone, she had to wait, as all of the carriers she called wanted to check her credit. She has been using a pay as you go phone for the longest time, but is ready to upgrade to a smartphone.

Pay Family Mobile Bill

Paying your bill is super easy – it can be done online, by phone, in-store or by auto-pay from your credit/debit card or checking. When I signed up today, I wasn’t asked for credit card information, which was nice.

Instead, I will receive a text a few days before my bill is due (my first bill will be prorated), and I will receive another reminder text shortly before it is due. Yes – it’s as simple as that. If I need to check on my account balance, see when a bill is due, etc., I can log onto my online account and information to find everything I need. I am estimating that we will save about $40 per month by switching to Walmart Family Mobile.

I didn’t even know Wal-Mart had cell phone plans! Though these prices sound SO much more appealing than our current contracted bill. I may just have to look into this!

Haven’t heard of the Walmart Family Plan before but will have to check them out, especially if they have iPhone and no cell phone contracts. Cell phone contracts are a big pet peeve of mine that’s why I refuse to sign up for one. I have an HTC Windows 8 Smartphone through Verizon and pay on a month-to-month basic as I hate getting locked into contracts. Cost me a little bit more monthly but that’s okay for now.

wow, love that you can keep your same # and also your own device if you want and of course the cheaper prices, hubby and I have prepaid now, but with our daughter wanting her own phone soon… this might be the way to go. ON a regular plan my smartphone was almost $100 a month just for me! (and not unlimited either!)

I am not a happy camper after reading this. I don’t have a smart phone yet and if I upgrade on our current plan (which is a contract plan of course) I have to pay an additional $30 a month. I cannot wait until it is over and I will most definitely check this out!

I just switched to a prepaid plan for myself and was looking for one for my parents (they only use the talk feature, not text or data) and this seems like a good one for them. It would definitely be much cheaper for them!!!

This sounds like such a good plan. Our plan is expiring after the first of the year. We really need to look into the Walmart options. We have 4 of us on our plan and it cost and arm and a leg. Thanks!
