I am happy to announce that my husband and I are getting closer to retiring with each passing day – less than 3 years to be exact! Am I doing a happy dance? I sure am! We have actually chosen an area for our retirement home, and even made an offer on one. I have been touring several homes and with each one I walk into, I imagine how I would decorate it if I bought that home.
I have been having a blast doing furniture shopping online, and by the time we do purchase a house (hopefully soon), I have a fairly good idea of a few pieces of furniture I would really like. For our living room, I am planning on buying one or two modern sofas along with some modern lighting. One of the houses we looked at had tile throughout the whole downstairs and it was absolutely gorgeous. I love that I can add a large area rug, and match my furnishings around it. Maybe something like this:
For our family room, we will definitely be going casual. After all, that is exactly what a family room should be – relaxing! I envision us snuggling up in there with a roaring fire in the fireplace.
We are really hoping to have a game room too. My husband has always wanted a pool table, and I am actually okay with that. I kind of want it to be a game/lounge room where we can all hang out and just “chill”. For this room, I want a few lounge chairs, a big screen TV, a mini-refrigerator,large plants and of course hubby’s pool table 🙂 I mean, seriously, how cool are these chairs?
I am going to have so much fun buying for our new home. Over the years we have bought pieces here and there, but for our retirement home, we will be buying all new decor and furniture. Now THAT is something to be excited about!

Lucky you. Looks like you will have a clean slate for décorating. Best of luck!
Holy COW Jennifer, you are SO lucky to retire that early!. My husband wanted to retire at age 45, (and now says 55). He is 42 and it “AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN”. How blessed you are and how much fun that is going to be to find your favorite things! I LOVE to go to places like hotels with all the modern motif, I love the angles and the clean palette…not exactly the things we have had with 6 kids along the way here. haha. I don’t think I would be able to live in a place like this ourselves full time. Really, we’d like to build a cabin on some land for a vacation/retirement home and then fix our home up to have at least some of the modern decor. But that would only be when the kids are gone…umm…and the way things are going that will be in the year TwoThousandNEVER> LOL!
I do love the couch and rug picture for SURE!
Happy shopping!
We’re redecorating our downstairs. I swear we’ve been playing musical furniture for weeks! Still haven’t quite finished, and I don’t think my husband is pleased that after about 12 years I’m ready to replace over half of the furniture!
