Often, extra or spare rooms are neglected or used as a dumping area for unwanted stuff. It’s often the smallest room in the house, or one that was used for something and isn’t anymore, and it’s not always easy to make good use of it. Yet, with some forethought and ingenuity, you can make the best of your spare room and design an environment that suits everyone’s needs. Read on to find out more.

What You Can Do With Spare Rooms

Turn It Into A Library

Your spare room is probably a bedroom, but it doesn’t have to be. If you want to add a room to your home but you’re using all the bedrooms, you may actually have another spare room you hadn’t considered, so you don’t have to move or add an extension. Your spare room could be an attic, basement, garage, or dining room, for example. You might need to insulate the attic, get a new garage door, or move some unused furniture, but if you could free up or create an entire room, wouldn’t that be great?

It would be especially great if you decided you wanted to have a library in your home. A home’s refinement can be upped with the addition of a library furnished with classy bookcases and ornamental accessories. Put a nice chair, sofa, or recliner in front of a window to create a tranquil spot for reading or studying. And all this could come from a room that just wasn’t used before.

What You Can Do With Spare Rooms

Have A Home Office

Any home can benefit from having an office, but those who have suddenly found themselves working from home will find that it is a particularly appropriate use of a spare room. Your computer, printer, documents, and bills can easily take over the rest of the house, so it’s helpful to have a designated space for them in your home office. If you have teens at home, giving them a quiet study space is a terrific idea as well.

Make It A Music Room Or Recording Studio

Do you play an instrument or like to listen to different types of music? You might have always wanted to start a podcast. Why not turn your extra room into a music room or a place to record at home?

You can start small by putting in your musical instrument or whatever other gear you need for your project. With time, you can save up more money for the project and start to soundproof the walls, and buy better tools.

Give Yourself A Dressing Room

Have you always wanted your own dressing room and walk-in closet? Then that’s what you should do with your extra room! A dressing room is more than just a luxury. It gives you a place to store your clothes, accessories, makeup, and other beauty products that would take up space in your bedroom otherwise. You only need a dressing table and a lot of stylish storage to turn your spare room into a dressing room, so it’s not too difficult or expensive a task.
