What’s Really Worth Renovating In Your Kitchen?

When it comes to kitchen renovations, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed – you see these picture-perfect spaces online, and suddenly your own kitchen feels outdated or just not quite right. But renovating doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul, and sometimes it’s perfectly fine to make a few small (or medium) changes and that will do it. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more about what’s really worth renovating in your kitchen – it could mean your budget stretches further and your kitchen still looks amazing by the time it’s all done.

Start With The Cupboards

In the kitchen, it’s the cupboards that tend to take up the most physical space and what you’ll look at more than anything else, so they’re probably going to be something you’re at least thinking about changing. But instead of totally replacing them, what if they just need a bit of a refresh? It could be that a new coat of paint or some updated handles are exactly what’s going to help, and they really can go a long way.

The fact is that if your cupboards are still in good shape structurally, there’s no reason to go to the effort, expense, and disruption of replacing them – it’s just a waste. You can just replace the doors, or even get them covered if it comes to it, and you’ll have something that looks different but that cost just a fraction of what a whole new set of cabinets would cost.

Countertops

Unlike cabinets, you can generally see the wear and tear a lot more on your countertops, and if yours are chipped, stained, or just your style anymore, you can update them and change the entire look of your kitchen, even if you don’t do anything else. And you really don’t have to choose the most expensive material either – there are plenty of reasonably priced options that look great and can still last for a while.

It’s also important to think about how you use the space because if you happen to do a lot of baking and food prep, having a smooth, durable surface is best, but if you mainly use the kitchen to entertain or hang out, then you could try something with a bit more texture to it, for example.

Taps

Upgrading your taps might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but it can actually bring the whole kitchen together, and anyway, it’s a small and easy thing to do, so it can be a great way to make changes without too much stress. Plus, your old taps might be frustrating without you really knowing about it – wobbly taps, ones that spray everywhere, perhaps ones that have a weak flow, and so on, are all going to annoy you, even if you’ve got a workaround.

Installing new taps or a new tap can instantly make your sink feel more modern and a lot more functional, and although it could be a job you can do yourself, if you’re unsure, it’s best to contact a professional plumber to do it – the last thing you want is a problem when it comes to water in your kitchen.

Don’t Always Change The Layout

Changing the layout of your kitchen is tempting, especially if there are things that don’t quite work for you, but this is where things can get complicated and expensive because you might end up moving appliances or plumbing pipes and that can be tricky.

So before you change everything, take a look at your current layout because sometimes it’s not actually the layout that’s really the problem, and it might just be how things are organized. Maybe you could store things differently or add some extra shelving or a trolley, for example. It could be that there’s a cheaper and easier option that will help you massively, although of course, if the only thing you can do is change the layout, that might have to happen.

Outdoor Kitchen

Flooring

New flooring can make a kitchen feel brand new, but it’s not always necessary, and if your current floor is in okay condition, you might just need to give it a deep clean or a bit of maintenance – something like adding a nice rug can be great, for example.

If you do decide to replace the flooring, make sure you pick something that’s durable and easy to clean because of all the floors in the house, it’s the kitchen that gets dirtiest (and there will be a lot of foot traffic as well).
