We all hope to never be the parent that use a tablet or phone as a babysitter. As with many other aspects of parenting, it is much easier to hold these beliefs dear before we have children. Although most parents try not to make a habit of it, occasionally they have handed their children the cell phone to get five minutes of peace. The good news is that these days we have games that are educational as well as fun. One such game is Zap Zap Kindergarten Math. Instead of another mindless game, children can now exercise their skills in mathematics to help keep their brains sharp over the summer. Both teachers and parents can use this app as a teaching aid or as a fun activity for kids. Zap Zap Kindergarten Math, which I had the pleasure of reviewing, focuses on topics such as number recognition, adding and subtracting, shapes and measurements. With the combination of bright graphics, engaging games, and fun goals, any child will love playing to beat the various levels. It also provides games within the curriculum for that grade level.
Parents also have access to an online report of how their child(ren) are doing. With multiple profiles available, your can watch the progress of multiple children. Now it is possible to see how often they practice, as well as which concepts they are struggling with so you can further help them.
In games such as Counting Wilderness, the player is presented with a specific creature, and he has to find that same creature in the picture, and count them. Through this game, kids can learn to connect numbers with items.
With Fishing Numbers, the player drops a hook to find a number greater than, less than, or equal to the number presented on the boat.
Although it isn’t a big deal, I do wish that the player could switch between levels instead of just being stuck on one. Much like myself, my children were always very easily frustrated by math. It would be nice to be able to switch to a different subject that is still math related.
I love Zap Zap Kindergarten Math and highly recommend it. Regardless if this game is used to keep the math juices flowing during school breaks or as an aid during the school year, your children will love playing this game, and YOU will love that it challenges them to expand their math skills and vocabulary.
