I’m a shrimp. My parents were both short and they passed on the short genes to me – I stand about 5’2. Sometimes it makes my life harder by being so short, but there are also advantages. For one thing, I can easily walk under cabinets that people leave open in the kitchen! Another advantage is that if I fall, I don’t have as far to go before reaching the ground.
The disadvantages of being so short are numerous. It is really frustrating when I try to get something off a tall shelf at the grocery store. It never fails, the very item that I need is always the highest up. I have to go on the hunt for a tall person, and use every ounce of “charm” that I have, to enlist their help. This happens at home too, when someone else unloads the dishwasher and puts my favorite glass on the top shelf. I usually have to retrieve the step stool on a daily basis, even at home!
I didn’t let it stop me!
When I was in Jr. High School, I always loved to play basketball during P.E. and considering my height, I was pretty darned good (if I do say so myself!). I remember my friends joking though, as I put all my brute force behind the ball as I swung it behind me, then hurled it toward the basketball hoops. I’m sure it was quite a sight, but hey – it worked!
If I had to choose between being really short or really tall, I think I would still choose being short. After all, I can put on heels. And I don’t tower over my husband 🙂
How tall are you? Do you wish you were taller? Shorter?
*Although this is a partnered post, all stories and opinions are my own.

I am 6′ tall and wish I were a bit shorter. I have a 37″ inseam and have to spend a fortune finding jeans and pants that fit.

I’m not quite 5’1″. I love that I can shop in the girls’ and women’s sections because I’m so small!
Melinda
I’m short too, 5’4″. I know that doesn’t sound too short but Rob is 6’2″ so there is a huge difference.

I am also about 5 ft 2. Are you SURE we aren’t sisters? LOL! I always hated being short but as I get older, the things that worried me in my type A personality mode do not bother me much now. I am just lucky to be alive most days.
I remember being so little when a young kid (like a bazillion years ago) and seeing this one episode of the Brady Bunch…SEE, I am a bazillion years old! Bobby Brady was feeling so sad he was small, but then he SAVED the day by helping to get out of a tight spot by crawling out. of I think a window. I remembered that for at least a decade and always made me feel OK about the fact I was so tiny. Now am short but not TINY. (But that’s another story. LOL)

I’m an average 5.6 not really tall nor short so I myself never thought much about my height but I too have to use a stool all the time at the house because I can’t reach things on the top shelf. Same problem at the stores. My sister on the other hand is only 5.2 (who actually looks a lot like you) and even though she was short it didn’t stop her much from doing what ever she desired. She actually did some things that would scare most men lol. She is a spit fire for sure. She loves to ride horses and owns I think 6 of them now and does barrel racing. I’m sure being short has it’s disadvantages but you wouldn’t know it to watch her. I think if you feel good in your skin that’s all that matter.,,,,Big or Small , Short or Tall it doesn’t matter at all 🙂

I’m 5′ 3″ and I actually have a problem with running into cabinets that are left open lol, I was good at basketball in jr. High too 🙂

I’m 5’7 and pretty happy with it. I always wanted to be a bit taller. I do have a hard time getting sleeves and pant legs to fit properly. I’m a size small and sleeves are always too short. Also, chain retail stores like the Gap…you can hold up a size 2 or 4 next to a size 8 and see that they’re shorter. I need the size 8 length in a smaller size. Given up shopping there for good.
Funny on the kitchen cabinets 🙂

i’m 5’3 and am really used to it and like my height….i actually feel average. sometimes it’s hard to find pants that aren’t too long but other than that i really don’t have much issue w/ finding clothes that fit.

I’m short stuff just like you are, and although I’d happily accept a couple inches on my legs, I’d rather be short than tall.

I’m 5′ 7″ and think I’m just the right height. Tall enough to reach the top shelves, but not so tall that I’m always hitting my head.

I’m 5’10” and have hit my head on cupboards more times than I can remember, it stinks. However it is such a nice feeling when I can help the shorter folks out in stores to get that item on the top shelf. I would change my height ever!

I’m 6’6ft and I love it would hate to be under 6ft.
But I do like short women 🙂

I’m 5’3 or 5’4 and I am very short compared to my family. I love it though because when there are low ledges I can easily fit under them. Hiding in small cabinets without being found. There are lots of advantages.

LOL I like the way you think! I can walk under open cabinets with no problem. It’s unfortunate for the taller folks who run into them, but it works for me 🙂
