Silk for Milk Challenge

“I’m lactose intolerant. Â I cannot tolerate lactose.” Â The first time I heard that line on Seinfeld, I was curled up on the sofa hugging myself and trying to figure out why my stomach was killing me. Â Later, I found out that I can’t tolerate lactose either. Â After 30~something years of being a milk lover, my heart was broken. Â What would become of my beloved coffee? Â My morning cereal? Â My bones? Â Ok, I wasn’t really concerned about my bones but I was concerned about my coffee ’cause I big ol’ puffy heart my morning, afternoon and evening cups of joe.

For the past few years, I’ve been using creamer in my coffee but then I was offered the chance to take the Silk for Milk Challenge and I thought Hmmmm, why not exchange my creamer for Silk Soymilk? Â So that’s what I did. Â For one week I used Vanilla Soymilk and for the second week I used Chocolate Silk Soymilk. Â Honestly, there was a bit of a taste and visual adjustment that I had to overcome.
With the Vanilla Silk, the coffee kinda took on a grayish cast like what you’d get when using skim milk. Â Not quite so appetizing to look at but the taste was pleasant enough. Â The Chocolate Silk made my coffee look and taste like a mocha from one of those chi chi coffee houses. Â Coffee nirvana. Â Silk has a sweeter taste than both milk and creamer, so once I figured out the Silk to coffee to sugar ratio I was golden.

I have been on a Lucky Charms kick lately . Lol. I eat it at least once a day. I have discovered as I’m getting older that I’m having a harder time being able to digest milk. I haven’t bitten the bullet and gotten some Silk to try yet but I know that’s going to be my answer to the misery I go through when I have my beloved Magically Delicious Charms. lOl. I would replace my milk with Silk.

My mom is a big proponent of Silk so one thing I would change (as she has on me for thanksgiving) is using it instead of milk in our mashed potatoes.

I like heating Silk soy up in the morning in the microwave and stirring in instant coffee. It’s a nice way to combine morning coffee with a serving of protein and calcium! (Really good with vanilla light, but original light works too)

I actually don’t drink much milk (oh no!!), but I do use it sometimes in making bread or pancakes. I used almond milk once for a rich, buttery bread so I bet I could try using Silk for that as well!
