I love throwing parties.  Love it!  Problem is we have a smaller house so it is hard to do here so I like to have the parties outdoors.  Living in the south we typically have mild (er) winter’s and spring comes early.  Not this year!  What’s up Mother Nature, burrrrr!!!

birthday express

My baby turned 5 in March.  5!  She has never had a little friend party.  We do parties but it is always mama’s friends that come and their kiddos.  It was overdue.  I may share too many pictures but I want to show you how with the help of Birthday Express we created a perfect party for our little girl.

We received the Disney Princess Deluxe Party Pack (with favors) for 8 from Birthday Express.  There was tons of stuff in there!  My little princess wanted to open it all up and look through but I had to tell her no.   But we did open up the invites that were provided and sent those off to her friends.

You know what they say about best laid plans?  And weathermen?  Never goes your way.  What was supposed to be a party outside now (thanks to rain & 45 degree temps) was going to be a party with 8 little girls, their mamas, and a boy in my tiny little house.  So we woke up the morning of the party (which landed ON HER EXACT BIRTHDAY – yay) and started decorating.  Immediately!  My husband was in charge of streamers and I was in charge of everything else.  I kid.  Sort of.

He also blew up the balloons which were included in the Deluxe Party Pack.  Such a kid pleaser for sure!  In addition to the awesome take home favor boxes provided we also gave each guest a balloon of her choosing.  Even 9 year olds love balloons, just sayin’.

We needed an activity for the kids to do while we waited for all the guess to arrive.  We decided on crowns with self adhesive jewels, tattoos, and face painting.  I put my middle daughter in charge of helping the younger girls with their crowns and my oldest was our official Princess tattoo artist.  They both loved being involved.

facepainting (1 of 1)

My husband was Royal Face Painter and really knocked it out of the park!  I was super impressed with his skills!  All of our royal guests loved their face painting the best out of all the activities.  Way to go Matt!

You don’t have to be an expert artist to do fabulous face painting!  Just make sure you buy real face paint in case of allergies and it stays on a lot better.  The super cute crowns on the older girls were part of their goodie boxes from Birthday Express.  After the princesses and our lone prince went through the stations it was time to eat!

I hated how cramped it was but thanks to Birthday Express it was gorgeous and no one seemed to care how close we were all sitting to each other.  The princesses loved the themed plates, napkins, and cups.  It was a royal affair for sure!

table (1 of 1)

I had made this table skirt and my girlfriend made the tissue paper pom pons a few years back.  Yes I said years.  We had used them for another party and I stored them in the basement just in case.  Looky here hoarding does have it’s benefits!  Ruby loved the table and has requested it be used next year as well.  I tried to stay with a princess them with the food I served.  Our party was from 2-4 pm so it was more heavy snacks rather than a meal.

sandwiches (1 of 1)

Of course we had pb&j!  What five year old doesn’t love them?  I have an entire set of princess themed cookie cutters but Ruby decided on glass slippers and crowns.  Good choices!  I grabbed out Grandma’s china for the occasion and it made the table look elegant and girlie.

table4 (1 of 1)

These rainbow skewers are a bit of work to prepare but such a hit with kids!  They were all gone when the party was over.  Even the mamas that were here grabbed them.  I have done these before and they look great and taste great too!  Plus you don’t have fruit rolling all over your plate.

table3 (1 of 1)

For the mamas I made cucumber sandwiches, chicken salad on croissants, and little Caprese bites.  Ruby loved the yummy chicken salad and tomato bites in addition to her glass slipper sandwich.  I could seriously eat that bowl of Caprese bites.

table2 (1 of 1)

We decided on cupcakes (from scratch with homemade buttercream) tinted a bright pink as well as pink lemonade.  My husband was feeling a little overwhelmed with the pinkness but is totally used to it (a wife, 3 girls, 3 female dogs, a female cat, and 4 female guinea pigs – thus our zoo).

cupcakes (1 of 1)

I got this Wilton cupcake holder a few months ago and love it!  It completely folds down and I keep it stored in the box.  We pull it out all the time because 1. We love parties and 2. We love cupcakes.

We ate, we sang, we ate cupcakes but there was one activity that Ruby had been talking about for the past year that was up next.

pinata (1 of 1)

A piñata!  Ruby has talked about them ever since she was at a party where she smacked one with a stick.  Guess what?  Birthday Express sent us one (not included in the Deluxe pack but TOTALLY worth it!) and baby girl got her wish!  My husband also filled the piñata with super good candy (no dum dums at Ruby’s princess party) like Skittles and M&M’s!  I was a bit jealous of the kiddos so I grabbed a bag of M&M’s.  The best part of our Disney Princess Castle Piñata is that there is no smacking!  The girls take turns pulling the ribbon and magically when the final ribbon was pulled the candy fell out.  This may be just how it worked out for us, I am not sure but it was pretty cool!

treat bags (1 of 1)

The favor boxes were such a big hit!  Like I said, we also let each girl pick out a balloon of their choice before we left.  The mamas were “ooohhhhh(ing) and ahhhh(ing) over how everything involved with this princess party just came together perfectly.  I thank Birthday Express for that!  It makes a mama like me look like I can plan a princess pretty party!  Even if you don’t have a princess in your house PLEASE check out Birthday Express.  I am sold!

group (1 of 1)

Our group of Princesses had a lot of fun.  I know this because their mamas have told me they all want Princess parties just like Ruby’s!  The banner above is personalized and comes with the Deluxe Party Pack.  Ruby has decided she wants it put out again next year.  Ok baby girl!

Shopping at Birthday Express really takes a load of work off the planner (aka ME!) when you have so many other things to be thinking about.  Getting the giant box of goodies delivered right to our door and me not having to run around town collecting everything helped make Ruby’s Princess party a huge success in my opinion.  Birthday Express has all of your kids favorite characters.  If you have a tween (or older) that isn’t into that sort of thing anymore there are tons of other options.  The kits are perfect.  I might not have hung streamers but they came with our pack.  Hang streamers folks!  The princesses couldn’t stop looking at them!  We might have left them up until my birthday which was 4 days later.  4 days of coming home to fancy!  Loved it! Birthday Express offers FREE SHIPPING on all orders over $75! Give Birthday Express a like on Facebook. I just noticed that they have an entire mustache party theme! How cute is that? For Pinterest junkies like myself I encourage you to follow the boards of Birthday Express, there are a lot of great ideas there!

Ok ready? Thanks to Birthday Express one lucky Eighty MPH Mom winner will receive a $100 credit to help make the party of your choosing as successful as ours was!  Yay! Giveaway will end May 12. Good luck!
