eKids: Headphones for the Cool Kids

Early last year, our little one came across his uncle’s old iPod. Being an older model, it just sat there collecting dust for a few years. He eventually got up the courage to ask if he could keep it as his own and was happily surprised when he got that “yes” answer he had been hoping for. Already a big music fan – he regularly sings along to “Danger Zone” (from Top Gun), dances crazily to just about every genre of music, and knows every word to Blake Shelton’s “Boys ‘Round Here” – he was thrilled to be able to carry “his music” with him wherever he went.

However, the only downside to having this newfound love of a personal music gadget are his adorable little boy ears. Originally, I gave him a spare set of my own earbuds but they were definitely too big for him. We searched high and low for a set that’d fit him, all to no avail. We had come across a few over-the-ear headphones but after not finding anything that fit his “cool” rating, he was adamant about continuing the search. Until now, we adults have always had control here and, coincidentally, all of the best products. Between our cell phones, home stereos, and the car radio, audio enjoyment has primarily been meant for adults. However, if I’m listening to it then my kids are too. Because of that, they’ve developed a great love for music and I would much rather encourage that than hinder it. The search for headphones, surely, couldn’t hold us back. Then came the holidays and, having nearly given up at this point, this is when we found it… kind of. Our niece and nephew each got a snazzy pair of headphones that were absolutely perfect for kids – eKids!

To say that our little ones are huge TMNT fans is an understatement. For a while there, it was hard to find anything featuring these characters but, thanks to its regained popularity once more, I am sure glad that eKids jumped on the bandwagon… or shellraiser! These headphones from eKids were certainly welcomed into our home with open arms and the kids have been beyond thrilled to try them out.

The adjustable headband and comfortable ear cushions make listening a pleasure and, finally, size is no longer an issue. To give you a bit of perspective on size, they fit our toddler perfectly when at their lowest setting but, when pulled out to its largest setting, I can wear them comfortably. One of my favorite features, however, is that the newer models (including this one) have an in-line volume control option. Many children’s headphones don’t offer this so I am thankful to see that eKids does. My boys have quickly learned the difference between “too loud,” “safe listening,” and “quiet time” sound levels. Being able to adjust this on their own makes these headphones that much more theirs. They’ve taken ownership, control, and of course, chose style.

These eKids headphones are the very first ones to have grabbed our boys’ attention and been deemed “cool” enough to be on their radar… and their heads.   26. I love the Agent-P Snooze-inator Alarm Clock. Phineas and Ferb is such a cute show. My youngest is disabled and has a few choice favorites that he sticks to, and that show is one of them.
