Arm & Hammer Baking Soda

For my final Arm & Hammer Baking Soda post, I have even more tips to share with you! I have talked about how baking soda can be used for the typical things like cooking, and I have provided a few cleaning suggestions, but now I have even more useful information for you!

In addition to using baking soda to clean tile floors, grout lines, countertops, etc, you can also use it to clean and deodorize vinyl shower curtains! Simply sprinkle ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda directly on a clean damp sponge or brush. Scrub the shower curtain and rinse clean. Hang it up to dry. How neat is that? I never would have thought of that, but shower curtains really do get pretty gross, and definitely need a good cleaning. Below I have listed other creative ways to use Arm & Hammer baking soda.

Cleaning:

Little hands mean lots of exploring. Safely clean your baby’s area (play pen, changing table, crib, stroller, car seat and high chair) with ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda. Just sprinkle ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda directly on a clean damp sponge and rub the item clean. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. Sparkling clean and no harsh cleaners to worry about!

Now that summer is here, outdoor gatherings, swim parties and barbecues are a common occurance.  To keep your lawn furniture and pool toys fresh, sprinkle and/or lightly scrub them with Arm & Hammer Baking Soda.  I think this is an excellent idea and a great way to make things feel “new” again for the season.

Other cleaning ideas:  Dishwasher, light oil stains in garage, sponges, coffee maker, baby toys, etc.  The list goes on and on, and you can find even more cleaning ideas on the Arm & Hammer website.

Deodorizing:

To deodorize your sink and tub drains, and keep lingering odors from resurfacing, pour a 1/2 cup of ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda down the drain while running warm tap water. ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda will neutralize odors for a fresh drain. Here’s a tid bit to remember – when replacing your box of ARM & HAMMER® Fridge-n-Freezer® Odor Absorber every 30 days, pour the contents of the old box down the drain to get a little extra mileage.

Other deodorizing ideas:  Lunchboxes (ewww, yuck, these definitely need help!), gym bags, athletic equipment, closets and just about anything else you can think of.

What else can you think of that can be deodorized with Arm & Hammer Baking Soda?  If you have small children or teens, I am sure you have some great ideas…and I would be delighted to hear them.

Baking Soda for Arts & Crafts? Oh yes, there are some things you can do with baking soda that have nothing to do with cleaning 🙂 For instance, you can make water color paints!
homemade-paints-for-kids

Here is what you will need:
2 tablespoons ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda
2 tablespoons flour
2 teaspoons sugar
1 packet* dry unsweetened drink mix (any flavor)
2 tablespoons water

Here is how you make it:
How to Make it:
1. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl.
2. Add water and stir until fizzing stops. (Different flavors of the drink mix will yield different colors.)
3. For more intense watercolor, a few drops of food coloring can be added to the mix.
4. Paint with them right away, or pour into jar lids or plastic try to let harden for future use.

(Make sure the kids don’t eat the paints – even though they are very pretty. An adult should be present for supervision).

Other fun craft ideas using Arm & Hammer Baking Soda include play clay, bath fizzies, and an erupting volcano.  There are plenty of other kids crafts made with baking soda too.  Have you ever used baking soda for arts & crafts?  Do you think you might try any of these ideas?

If the above ideas and suggestions aren’t enough, make sure you take a look on the Arm & Hammer Solutions page, where you will find oodles of uses for baking soda (believe me – you will be surprised!)
