One of my favorite hobbies is looking for ways to improve myself and my habits to get more out of life, and simply enjoy every day. Unfortunately, that isn’t always easy to do, and there are times we all feel a little sedate and unmotivated, and need some inspiration to jumpstart our enthusiasm for the everyday again. If you feel like you want to make changes in your life (whether big or small) and don’t know where to start, why don’t you try some of these?

Five Ways To Improve Your Life Now

1. Cut out toxic people. This is the single most important thing you can do to make your life better. If someone drains you, is using you, abuses you, or is just a downer who perpetually puts a damper on your day, don’t make time for them anymore. Getting rid of negative people and influences makes room for more positive people and better things, and your whole outlook on life, not to mention your life itself, will improve drastically.

2. Eat healthier, and drink less caffeine and alcohol. Eating fast foods and junk food and drinking a lot of sodas, coffee and alcohol messes with your sugar levels and nervous system, causing everything from sluggishness and depression to short-lived stimulation that comes to a halt with a crash. Who needs that? Drinking more water is not only good for you, your body, and your looks, but will put an end to those wild mood swings.

3. If you are working at a job you hate, and dread waking up in the morning to go to work, start looking for a new job. You will spend a lot of your life at work. It should be something you enjoy. You only live once, you shouldn’t live a large portion of your life unhappily. Dedicate a portion of each week (like Tuesdays at lunch) to look for a new job, spice up your resume, set up interviews, etc and get moving. You should be excited to wake up each day.

4. Show the people you care about that you appreciate them. Stop thinking about what people should do for you, and instead acknowledge what they have done for you, or what they mean to you, and let them know it. They will feel incredibly special to hear you share this, and it will make their day. Isn’t that a great thing to do for people you love?

5. Clean out your stuff! Having a clutter free house is freeing. Be merciless. You may feel guilty every time you toss something you spent money on, or throwing out a gift you don’t like but feel sentimentally attached to, but storing useless items costs money, clutter is depressing, and there are better ways to recall someone fondly than being forced to hold onto items you don’t enjoy (it may actually make you resentful). Let it all go, and the resulting order will make all that struggle worth it.
