I know I can count on your, dear readers, to help out…especially for something as important as beating cancer, and making a difference in the life of those who have cancer. Below please find two VERY important causes that you can help in a matter of seconds. Most of us are on Twitter or Facebook a good portion of the day right? Well, starting tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. PST, the official #beatcancer race for a new record begins at Blog World Expo. Last year, a Guinness World Record was set by Everywhere, out of Atlanta, Georgia (raising more than $70,000) for the “Most Widespread Social Network Message” with #beatcancer. In 24 hours the one-word phrase #beatcancer set the record contributing to the 209,771 unique mentions on Twitter, Facebook and blog posts. To participate, all you need to do is add the hashtag #beatcancer (all one word) to any tweet, Facebook status update or blog post. There will be a donation made of ($0.05)* per mention of #beatcancer on Twitter, Facebook, or blog post during the 24 hour Guinness World Record attempt. All money will be donated to the designated cancer serving non-profits, LIVESTRONG Foundation, Bright Pink and Stand Up To Cancer. Can we beat the WORLD RECORD this year? I just KNOW we can do this!!
In addition to this, I am asking for your votes for a special place that is so deserving, in the Pepsi Refresh event. $50,000 will be allocated to Camp Okizu if they get the votes they need. You can give 50 kids with cancer, the time of their lives at camp. A friend of mine and his family go here each year, and it has made a world of difference in their lives, and for his daughter. Camps for children with cancer are very special. All you have to do is click to vote – super easy! Clicking below will take you to all the info you need.
This will enable 50 children with cancer to spend a week at Camp Okizu, where they will run, laugh, hike and swim with children like themselves. Children do not feel different at Camp Okizu if they are bald or missing a limb. While sleeping under the stars and playing beneath the pines, campers are supported by volunteer physicians, nurses and counselors who are aware of, and able to deal with, their special needs. For many, it’s these happy memories, friendships and anticipation of next year’s visit to camp that helps them through their cancer treatments. This year, there will be 50 more children at Oncology Camp than two years ago. It costs $1,000 to have one child transported, housed, fed and cared for during a week at camp. You can also sign up for an email reminder to vote each day.
You can you can vote for Okizu a total of 3 times a day: vote once via the Pepsi Refresh Project website, once through Facebook and once by texting your vote!
Thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

I voted for Camp Okizu, I tried to put it on my Facebook page, but it only put an application and not the one I wanted people to vote for.
I’ll see what I can do later about it. I don’t have many computer skills, self-taught, so we’ll see if I can do anything better than that later.
Thank you SO much for helping!
Thank you so much for helping raise awareness of this cause! 🙂
Jen, I have voted for this a few times already, tweeted it twice, put it on my Facebook page, and I have the widget on my blog. I think this is such a wonderful thing to do for children and I am more than happy to spread the word.
Thank you SO much Lorie! Every bit helps, and with all of us on Facebook, Twitter and such it’s easy to spread the word. Thank you!
