A Double Whammy – Halloween AND Falling Back??

Well, our Halloween was pretty uneventful.  Sad, but true.  It was like any other day to me.  That is okay – really, I don’t mind. I was mostly prepared for Halloween – I bought 2 big bags of candy about two weeks ago but they magically disappeared, so I had to buy MORE.  I bought three more bags of candy a few days ago and I have been enjoying one every here and there. I managed to eat all of the Hot Tamales out of the Mike and Ike/Hot Tamale combo bag.  It’s not as bad as it sounds – there are like four candies per box!

Last night my daughter went to a movie and while my hubby was out picking her up, I was happily working away on my laptop when there was a knock at the door.  “What on earth is that?”, I asked myself.  Hmmm. Oh right – it’s Halloween!  I grabbed the remainders of the three bags of candy, jetted down the stairs, and peeked out the peephole. I saw a tall something or other. Stupid me opens the door – I mean it IS Halloween right? It was a teenager dressed as….something. I hooked him up.  I gave him handful after handful of candy, wished him a Happy Halloween and he was on his way.  After he left, I went about my business.  He is the only trick or treater that came by. Of course, our house is kind of set back, and I didn’t exactly have a lot of lights on. I didn’t even have a pumpkin this year.  I am so ashamed. But we never have very many little goblins and ghosts coming to our house anyway, so I think that’s why I just did not bother this year.

So that was my Halloween.  Then I remember that we also get to change clocks –  oh joy!!

I really wish we could keep the same time year round. I mean, it seems like just when I get all of the clocks changed, it is time to do it again.  Our old VCR clock (which sits in a room we never use) has been flashing for years now. I never could figure that one out.  I unplugged it this morning. Thank goodness for our Comcast box – it automatically resets the time.  The microwave, oven and coffee pot are fairly easy to change. My iphone (smart sucker) also changed automatically.

In my bedroom, I do not change the clocks back before I go to bed.  This is beneficial to me, as in the morning, I can look at the Comcast box and think “Okay this is the new time”, and look at the clock on my nightstand and say “Okay this is the old time”.  For some reason this helps me.  Otherwise, all day I am trying to figure out “well if the old time was this, and now is the new time, what time is it really?” and similar confusing thoughts. Why does this throw me off so much?  I never did understand the “Spring Forward, Fall Back thing”.  It just doesn’t make sense to me.  Now you can see why this gets me so flustered! Sheesh.  Why can’t we just keep our clocks the same year round like a few other (smart) states do?

I really used to hate daylight savings time when my kids were little.  It took weeks to get them back into their bedtime schedule.  They just did not understand going to bed while it was still light out.

So bear with me today – I am a little wonky due to those things I mention above. I will get my head straight (and the rest of the clocks changed) by Thursday or so…hopefully!

Do you have “issues” with changing the clocks? How was your Halloween?
