Joovy Bicycoo

Learning to ride a bicycle is one of the biggest accomplishments in a child’s life. Unfortunately that often comes with quite a few bumps, bruises, and skinned knees. To their defense, it’s hard! As a child, I managed to crash into and flip over a mailbox resulting in the loss of my two front teeth. It was quite a traumatic experience and I nearly quit riding my bicycle because of it. Thankfully, I didn’t quit and I eventually taught my younger brother to ride as well – by pushing him down a hill and into a tree, whoops!

Now, think about this for a second. What if we have been teaching (and learning) it the hard way all along? What if there was an easier way to get the hang of it? Three wheels, to four wheels, and then to two wheels – that doesn’t even sound right. We have been taught to pedal before figuring out anything about balance. That is like running before ever learning to walk. We tried teaching our little one to ride his bike the traditional way. After mastering his tricycle we got him a brand new bicycle (with training wheels) for his birthday. It was then, during a family bicycle ride, that he decided he wanted to be just like his daddy and ride with two wheels. Four was apparently just an unacceptable number of wheels for him. We obliged and began the process of trying to teach him how to ride, and balance, his new two-wheeled bike. After many attempts, plenty of falls, and one too many bruises he quit on us. Well, he kind of quit. He began sitting on it and just striding along as if it were a toddler’s ride-on toy. Perhaps he was onto something.

Balance bikes are a new wave of design and way of thinking when it comes to learning how to ride. Rightfully so, balance comes first. This allows our children to learn gradually as opposed to forcing traditional practices upon them – check out this blog post on Balance Bikes vs. Training Wheels. While there are many companies that have caught wind of the idea, Joovy easily has the competitors beat. As an already very well established and loved children’s company, the Joovy team certainly knows what they are doing. The excellence of the Joovy Bicycoo BMX Balance Bike follows suit with the reputation that the company has built for itself. It is made to please, both, children as well as parents.

Made of aluminum alloy, the Bicycoo is just as lightweight, strong, and durable as its high-end big kid bike counterparts. The maneuverability of it still astonishes me and its ease of use has caught my two-year-old’s attention regardless of the fact that Joovy’s Bicycoos are rated for children ages 3 and up. One of the best features of the Bicycoo is the pneumatic and refillable tires. Most balance bikes on the market employ the use of plastic toy tires that wear easily when, well, actually used. Now, if your children are anything like mine, plastic is another term for “will soon be broken.” Kids want to play; they want to enjoy their toys. As parents, we want them to get as much use out of an item as possible. Joovy makes all of our wishes come true.

Both of my children have been completely enamored with their new Joovy Bicycoo BMX and I love that we no longer have to rush home to fix any boo boos. The stride to ride styling of the Bicycoo makes it a breeze for little ones and has definitely helped to perfect our oldest’s balancing capabilities. It is also the easiest product to assemble with only one screw!

The best part of the Bicycoo is that it allows us to enjoy our family bicycle rides without the stress and worry that typically goes along with a child’s transition to two wheels. Not only are the Bicycoo BMX and Bicycoo GT both wonderful toys for children but Joovy products also make great gifts! With products ranging from strollers and highchairs to toys and toddler potties, Joovy has something for everyone. That being said, I am sure that many of you are beginning to plan your winter holiday shopping (if you haven’t already done so), right? Now,

Wait for it…

  1. I totally want that tricycoo!!! Those are awesome, I wish we would have gotten one for our 3 year old, he’s having such a hard time figuring out how to peddle a bike, and is now too big for lots of those things.

  2. i would love to have the Toy Bundle – Pink Dot on my list. thats so cute, my kiddie would love it

  3. Along with a Bicycoo for my 2 year old, I’d want a double stroller. I have the Ultralight now, but I really would prefer the side by side. Maybe after the holidays…

  4. My son just got his first “big boy” bike a few weeks ago and he keeps asking for the training wheels off but he just isn’t ready. I wish I saw this earlier..

  5. Would love a ergo Caboose as a back up for my scooter x2! And tricycoo for my littles! Oh and a sling for a new mama I know!!!

  6. I know it’s already been said, but I really like the toy room play yard. I may have to look into getting that anyway.
