Since my children were small, it has always been a goal of mine to teach them about the entire world around them as opposed to just our local community. In a world so vast, it’s easy to get lost in the bigger picture of things. If we challenge ourselves (and them) to learn something new each day, at some point, we are forced to go beyond what and where we already know. It is then that the doors of the world open for us and true adventure may begin. Of course, trying to light that spark in a child to want to discover the world can be difficult and it can oftentimes be scary. Luckily, that’s where
Peppa Pig comes in.
For those of you that may not be familiar with
Peppa Pig, it’s an adorable children’s show that focuses on the young daughter of a rather high-spirited pig family. She, her parents, her younger brother, and her friends are always up to some sort of wonderful adventure that is sure to end with huge smiles on the faces of both characters and viewers alike.
Peppa is a lovable, exuberant little piggy who lives with her little brother George, Mommy Pig, and Daddy Pig. Peppa’s favorite things include playing games, dressing up, days out, and jumping in muddy puddles. Her adventures always end happily with loud snorts of laughter.
This weekend, Peppa Pig will be embarking on yet another one of her adventures but, unbeknownst to her, this one will turn into a whirlwind trip around the world. You see, although Peppa’s family had planned to celebrate the start of their summer holiday on the right foot, the day goes awry when their car breaks down. Luckily, a family friend is there to lend a hand (and a plane!) and the high-flying adventure, quite literally, takes off from there!
It is no secret that children connect with their favorite characters on some level and I love that this particular
Peppa Pig special is so much more than just another episode. With the adventures taking her and her family around the world and into different ecosystems, parents can use this as an educational opportunity in addition to it simply being entertainment.
Young fans can tune-in to the Nick Jr. channel for a special marathon of back-to-back Peppa Pig episodes beginning Sunday, March 26th at 7pm ET, leading up to the debut of the “Around the World with Peppa” special episode.
As a Peppa Pig Parent, I was given the chance to view the special in advance of this weekend’s debut. Despite only being able to watch it from the computer, the children were eager to snuggle up and join in on the fun. They thoroughly enjoyed the screening and happily giggled, oohed, and aahed throughout, however, it was what came afterward that was most exciting. After having watched and taken in everything from Peppa’s grand adventure around the world, the kids started imagining their very own trips to here and there.
Peppa Pig’s stop in the jungle to visit her friend Pedro Pony turned into a backyard adventure with the kids swinging from our swing set’s “vines” and narrowly escaping the scary, creepy, crawly jungle animals.
Taking another page out of Peppa Pig’s adventure book and mimicking her trip to the mountains, they turned our stairs into their own Mt. Everest. Much like Peppa and her family accidentally reaching the peak before her friend Danny Dog, the kids took turns beating one another to the top. Whether they were steadily climbing, hiking stick in tow or flying around with the vroom of the plane’s engine, it was great to see their imaginations taking over.
Peppa’s trip into the desert with her friend Emily Elephant ended up parlaying itself into yet another mini adventure amongst my own little ones. Of course, without any actual desert in sight, this became a rather messy backyard dirt play. While
Peppa Pig and her friends were on the search for a particular lizard, we found ants, worms, and a few caterpillars here. However, when imagination strikes, that ant became a desert spider, the worm became a poisonous snake, and the caterpillar ended up being a bit of a wiggly cactus.
Last but not least, Peppa’s good friend Susie Sheep was at the South Pole so the family ended up making a stop there as well. Surrounded by penguins, everyone played with one another jumping in the snow. While the snow is certainly a change from Peppa’s usual muddy puddles, it was still an exciting little playtime complete with a catchy song. Much like all of Peppa Pig’s other adventures, my children took it upon themselves to bring this little trip to life. Bundled up in their snow gear and boots, they pretended that our mud puddles were snow and jump they did!
