Who says you need to be camping to enjoy s’mores? Since we aren’t big campers, my daughter {aka Speedy girl} and moi {Speedy} discovered a way to feel like we are out enjoying the great outdoors {okay – not really}. But we did find a way to make a yummy treat that is typically done while camping or done over a big open fire.
A couple of days ago, my daughter mentioned how she had a mad hankering for s’mores. Hmmm – that sounded pretty good to me as well. She and my husband went to the store and got all of the makings. The hubs and I sat down on the couch for a few minutes and BAM – he fell asleep. As the sound of his snoring echoed through the house, my daughter came in and had a pitiful look on her face. “But…but…Dad said we would make s’mores”. He had planned on making a fire outside for her, but obviously that wasn’t going to happen.
I sat and thought for a moment then decided to try something. I told her to follow me into the kitchen and we would see what we could do. Let’s see – what forms of fire did we have in the house besides the fireplace? A lighter. We would try making s’mores by using a lighter to “brown” the marshmallows.
We laughed so hard and giggled like second graders while we tried this out. Have I mentioned lately how much I love my daughter?
She videotaped a bit of the mayhem – take a look:

Of course when my husband woke up, he said, “Why didn’t you just put them in the microwave?” Ummm, no honey, you need that crispiness on the outside.
DISCLAIMER: DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME UNLESS YOU HAVE ADULT SUPERVISION….*cough* just had to throw that in there. Ya know. I will not be held responsible for any dumb things anybody does 🙂

These look wonderful.

LOL! That looks like so much fun and very resourcefull too! You girls need one of those long lighter like sticks that I light my grill with. And I didn’t heed your warning, I may have to try that at home!

I just bought one of those long lighters at Lowe’s yesterday, specifically for s’mores! It goes much more quickly that way : )

They look really good but that was absurd!!!! You are ridiculous!
I have a question for you, by the way!

A question for ME? Should I be scared? LOL – shoot me an email okay? I agree, I am very silly : )

Brilliant! Mmmm. LOL I bet those lighters got hot though!

Ummm yeah they kind of did. I did, however, buy one of the long lighters at Lowe’s the next day : ) Much easier now!

A lighter is an interesting idea, but my girls and I decided to use tea lite candles….way cool! It really works, and the cleanup is so much easier than putting out a campfire. Give it a try!! Oh, and try adding some peanut butter on the graham cracker before the chocolate……YUMMY!

Ooooh – both of these are great ideas! I will definitely keep them in mind!

That is the funniest video. I remember making them on my gas stove with my boys. I would use my fondue forks for the marshmallows… OMG what a mess when the marshmallow fell off.
I love how Speedy Girl said to make sure it was a “responsible” parent supervising – she is a doll & I’m glad you had such fun with her. You do know that I am dying for some now.

Awww thanks : ) Umm yes they can be very messy. She did melt a marshmallow on a book (no idea how that happened). She is a sweetie and we have so many laughs together. Thanks Lorie!
