BISSELL SmartClean Robot Vacuum

eighty mph mom 2015 holiday gift guide
I know that there is an ongoing joke with friends and couples, about how you should never give your wife a vacuum cleaner as a present for the holidays, or for her birthday. I beg to differ though, and you just might too, when you hear about something that can make a busy life SO much easier. What if I told you that there is something that will do the vacuuming for you? Yep – the BISSELL SmartClean Robot Vacuum is one neat little machine!

When my BISSELL SmartClean Robot Vacuum arrived, my husband helped me assemble the vacuum, but the instructions were really easy and I could have figured it out myself. BUT since he was kind enough to offer, well, you know. The vacuum was packaged very neatly, and everything we needed to get it up and running was included in the box.

We assembled the vacuum quickly (quite frankly, we were surprised how easily it was to put together), and then added the brushes. They went on easily – we simply popped them into place.

Attaching the brushes (easy, easy!):

The purpose of the bristles is to “scoot” particles, crumbs, etc. into its reach. This helps get particles out of corners and edges.  I found that it did have a little bit of a hard time with a few of my corners, but this seemed to happen mostly in “oddball” corners.

At first I was a bit worried, as this little vacuum didn’t vacuum quite the way I normally do, but it has its own special way of picking up debris, dirt, crumbs, hair, fur, etc. It never seems to go in a particular pattern or direction – it moves around pretty randomly, and comes back to get areas that it missed the first or second time around. That is the beauty of the BISSELL SmartClean Vacuum – you don’t need to babysit. Just leave it alone and let it do it’s thing.

I sprinkled a bunch of flax seeds on our floor to see how well the SmartClean vacuum would pick them up (it’s not for lack of crumbs on my floor that I did this, but I thought it would really let you see how it works). With one pass it picked up at least half of them. Later it came back and got the rest (pardon the drip on my floor – oops!). It also picked up the dried “wet” cat food that my cats managed to drop on the floor too (except for the small pieces that kind of adhered to the floor – if you have cats you know what I mean).

Triple-Action Cleaning System. To deliver a reliable, more complete clean, the SmartClean Vacuum features dual spinning edge brushes for corners and edges, a rotating brush roll to unseat and lift embedded debris and hair, and strong suction to gather loose dirt into the dust bin.

We have a combination of hardwood, tile and carpet floors, and it was interesting to see how it would handle the different surfaces. I needn’t have worried though it worked equally well in all situations.

I love the low profile design of the vacuum, it is pretty awesome. It is low enough to get under my kitchen cabinets (where crumbs seem to really accumulate), my laundry room cabinets, and all the way under our bed (I love that this guy can get under there and clear the dust bunnies!). We have a huge bed and it is virtually impossible for one of us to climb under there. Previously we had to get a broom and try to get everything out. It never felt like we got everything.  Granted, it doesn’t fit under everything in my house, but it did a fantastic job everywhere it could reach.

The BISSELL SmartClean Robot Vacuum is, as the name indicates, pretty smart! It features Invisible Wall Technology, which means that you can choose to keep the vacuum out of rooms that you don’t want it to go into.  Included in the package is a piece that you can place in front of a room you want to be “off limits”. Another thing this clever little vacuum does is returns itself to the charging station when it is getting low on battery or when its work is done!

The collection bin is super easy to remove and put back in after emptying. One more thing to love – less frustration for me!

If you are looking for a convenient way to clean-up before company arrives, you can simply put the Bissell Robot vacuum to work and let it roam around the house. It really doesn’t need much supervision, as it seamlessly cruises from carpet to floor and back again taking care of the dirty work for you. If you are going out, you can program it to clean while you are gone. It even handles area rugs with ease, and without pulling or tugging on them (which is wonderful for me, as we have quite a few area rugs around the house!).

BUY: You can purchase the BISSELL SmartClean Robot Vacuum directly from the BISSELL website, and at other retailers online and off. The ARV is $299.00, which is very reasonable in my opinion, for something that makes my life so much easier. It is also why I wouldn’t mind at all if my husband bought me this vacuum for a holiday gift!

  1. Thank you for the review. Very well done. I got one for my wife for her Birthday in June. Price alert: Amazon has it for $199.00 plus free shipping.

  2. I love my sweeper too. I’m looking for a replacement dust bin filter. The filter is coming loose around the edges. Any suggestions other than Bissell.com?
