As much as we said that the iPad was going to be Mommy and Daddy’s “toy,” the kids have kind of taken it over for themselves. With all of the kid-friendly apps and learning games available to them, I think that it was a bit inevitable. Lately, our little ones have developed a new found love of puzzles through iPad apps. Unfortunately, there aren’t many “old school” puzzles available for kids their age. Sure, there are a few tiny puzzles here and there but, once put together; the kids completely lose interest in them. Once they’ve been completed, it’s deemed “no fun anymore.” Of course, this use one time and be done with it forever is not exactly a budget friendly situation. Thankfully, I was recently introduced to an old school meets new technology kind of product and, boy, it is a blast!
Popar Toys took the age old saying of “if you build it, they will come” and turned it into a digital reality for the kids of today’s iGeneration. As much as I encourage my children to get outdoors for play, I have to admit that this new technology from Popar Toys is actually kind of cool. Cool from, both, kids’ and parents’ perspectives.
“Where most puzzles and games end, Popar begins.” -Scott Jochim, CEO of Popar Toys
Not too long ago, I had the opportunity to try out the Popar Toys new line of augmented reality 3D Interactive Puzzle Games. These are certainly not your ordinary puzzles. Upon completing the traditional puzzle, simply pulling out your smartphone, tablet, or iPad allows you and your children to set foot into a whole new 3D world. Once here, you can embark on an adventure of being the World Cup champion, the prettiest princess in all of the land, or even fly out of this world on a trip through outer space!
In three easy steps, you can allow your children to take the age old game of puzzles and transform it into a 3D world of play.
Step One
Complete the puzzle of course. With my own little ones still trying to master this task, it helps to encourage them to find all of the edged pieces first and then fill in the midsection of the puzzle from there.
Step Two
Download the coinciding (product specific) free Popar Toys app, available for iOS and Android devices.
Step Three
Enjoy your journey into a new world, a new adventure, and new play! Whether you’re going to tear down walls as a construction worker, shoot a game of hoops, or have a 3D play picnic, Popar Toys and the 3D Interactive Puzzle Games can get you there.
The Popar Toys line of 3D Interactive Puzzle Games are recommended for ages 6 and up (though my younger children loved it) and is available in seven awesome styles that include:
- Construction
- Planets
- Basketball
- Football
- Soccer
- Princess
- Picnic
All options, of 100 and 300 pieces, are sold for $14.99 and can be purchased through the Popar Toys website.
With boys, not quite old enough to be really into sports just yet, we chose the Construction and Planets options to try out.
This is actually the very first puzzle that we’ve done more than once. Since our kids don’t quite meet the targeted age group, the Construction 3D Interactive Puzzle was a bit easier for them at only one hundred pieces. This particular game, aside from the puzzle itself of course, includes augmented reality options to learn about each type of featured construction vehicle as well as a fun in-app game to play. As boys, destruction is an exciting event so the wall breaking game was a smash – literally! Just check out all of the fun that we had with it!
The “point and shoot” ease of this app (and game) makes it a breeze for the little ones to handle on their own. They love trying to beat each other’s scores and seeing who can break down, crash, and destroy the walls faster, better, and more efficiently. It has become somewhat of a contest to see who can get to the next level first. They really do have a blast with this real life and, simultaneous, interactive technology game.
It’s expected that today’s children will be more drawn to the snazzy technology ridden world that we live in, but I am glad to see that with products like this, we can bring them back down to the basics in their own kind of way. A little bit classic and a little bit new makes for the perfect combination… and perfect toy.
I love that the 3D Interactive Puzzle Games have been such a hit with my own children but what I love even more is that I get to share its greatness with you! Thanks to the great folk over at Popar Toys, one of YOU will win one of these amazingly fun games!
