It is quite a chore keeping children entertained throughout the day. It can be even more difficult during the summer when they want to be outside, but the things they can do outside are limited. While my girls enjoy riding their bicycle/tricycle, swimming, and running around the yard, those can get really boring after awhile, and we need new ways for them to have fun. Plus, when it is really hot out and they start getting warm from all the activity, I want to offer things that they can sit down and do, all while staying entertained.

The Kinetic Sand Bucket O’ Sand comes with two pounds of Kinetic Sand, bucket, shovel, and castle mold. I have seen Kinetic Sand in stores and wondered if it was something my girls would enjoy playing with. They really liked it! The Kinetic Sand sticks together so it is easy to mold into shapes without any mess. When they are done playing with it, it is easy to clean up (again because it sticks together). And of course, playing with sand is always fun for them. I definitely think we need to pick up some more Kinetic Sand to add to this set because they have enjoyed it so much!
The Happy Ocean Mandala Designer comes with a mandala stencil and six different colors of chalk. The stencil has all sorts of designs on it – fish, octupus, seahorse, dolphin, stars, bubbles, seashells, and spirals. We first had to choose the design we wanted to make (and there is an instruction book with sample designs). We decided on a fish and seashell design. We then set the stencil on the ground and made a mark in one of the small arrows on the stencil to keep track of our design. Then we traced the fish and seashell outlines. Then we moved the stencil in a circle, using our arrow mark to keep our design straight (you are supposed to move 3-4 arrows each time). Then we traced the fish and seashell outlines again, moved the stencil, etc. until our tracing was complete. We then colored in our design (color in whatever you want, including the background). My oldest daughter had a lot of fun drawing with the stencil and the best thing about it is that you can make a different design every time!
