CLICKFREE AUTOMATIC BACKUP
I have needed to do this post for awhile, but I am now glad I waited, as I have a pretty incredible story to tell you about the Clickfree Automatic Backup portable external hard drive. I am excited to share this experience, because this one product saved me from major frustration {and oodles of tears}, and it just might help you too.
I received my Clickfree Automatic Backup unit several months ago, and it sat in the package for awhile. Truth be told, I thought it would be a long, confusing process, so I kept putting it off. About 3 weeks ago, I finally decided to try it, as I have so many important documents, photos, etc on my laptop that I really needed to save.
I read the simple instructions, plugged it into the USB port on my laptop and it started automatically. Yes, it was that simple. I was thrilled needless to say, as I am not very tech savvy, and I always fear I will mess something up in a big way.
From the Clickfree website:
“No software to install or setup. Automatically find, organize and backup all your data onto the Clickfree™ portable backup drive. Works right out-of-the-box. Just plug it in and the backup just starts.
Backup multiple computers with one Clickfree™ portable backup drive!Backs up data from up to 15 computers. Easily restore your lost files back to your computer.Transfer your files to a new computer. Share photos, music and videos with friends”
After the initial backup on the Clickfree unit, subsequent backups are really fast. You can choose the option to alert you when it is time for another backup. It will tell you how many days it has been. I found this out at the perfect time.
Flash forward to about a week later (last Saturday morning). I was working on my laptop (which is about 3 years old), when I noticed the screen starting to get dim. It had been acting funny for a few days. The Clickfree notification popped up and it had been 7 days since my last backup. I decided I probably should go ahead and backup, since my laptop was doing some strange things. I plugged it in, and voila! Can I tell you my shock when about an hour later my laptop overheated and shut down on me? Yes…it completely died. I know it had been getting pretty hot lately, but I didn’t think it would die. Just…like…that. I couldn’t turn it on. I took the battery out, and put it back in. I did everything I could think of but to no avail. My laptop was a goner.
Though I was sad, I smiled when I remember the impeccable timing on backing it up.
I cannot be without a laptop, so that very afternoon, I went and purchased a new laptop. I brought it home and realized how very much I needed all of my “stuff”. I didn’t want to start over from scratch. I remembered my Clickfree, but wasn’t sure if it would work. You see, my old laptop had windows Vista, and my new one has Windows 7. I plugged the Clickfree into my new laptop, hit “restore” and everything I needed was safely placed on my new laptop. Hallelujah!
I knew Clickfree Automatic Backup was a neat product, but never in a million years did I dream it would be SO HELPFUL. I figured it would just be nice to backup my work, but I never envisioned my laptop just dying.
If you do not already have some type of external backup for your computer, I highly recommend Clickfree. It is so easy AND you can backup up to fifteen computers. Next on my list is to backup my old desktop, and the desktop that my daughter and husband use.
Put this on your Holiday list – you will not regret it. This is also the perfect idea for anyone you know who stores anything valuable or treasured on their computer. I know there are many portable backup drives on the market, but this one I absolutely love. I will never be without Clickfree again! Oh and did I mention how gorgeous the color is? Mine is red, but other colors are available too!
