Okay, who needs a good laugh?
Just watch this. Trust me.
That is a clip from the Despicable Me 2 movie trailer. When I first saw it, I nearly died of laughter. I accidentally woke the kids up from laughing too loudly and I got one of those looming “What on Earth…!?” kind of stares from their daddy. No matter how old I get, silly kid humor will work anytime.
Three years ago, when the original film was released, our whole family got a kick out of it. As hilariously funny as it was, it was also sweet. The charming story turned an evil villain into a good ol’ family man as he settled into life as a father with his three little girls. As he tucked them into bed, he left us with this…
“One big unicorn, strong and free, thought he was happy as could be. Then three little kittens came around and turned his whole life upside down. They made him laugh, they made him cry. He never should have said goodbye. And now he knows he can never part from those three little kittens that changed his heart.”

Now, as those little girls are growing up, he’s beginning to figure out what fatherhood is all about; the ups and downs, the chaos, the headaches, and the fun. In the midst of trying to juggle life with three little ones, an army of unpredictably crazy Minions, and entrepreneurship with running a new business, Gru (Steve Carell) gets recruited by Lucy (Kristin Wiig) and the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a dangerous, new super criminal. Tables have turned and this former (attempted) destroyer of the world is, now, one of the good guys.

As Gru journeys on his mission to, this time, save the world, you’ll watch as his attraction for Lucy grows. Together they do their best to stop Macho, the prime suspect in the case. Caught up in, both, his mission and his new love interest, Gru doesn’t realize that his lovable little Minions are being secretly kidnapped for evil doings. And there enters the Evil Minions.

Meanwhile, the son of the enemy is making the moves on Gru’s eldest daughter, Margo (Miranda Cosgrove). While she is falling for him and Gru is falling for Lucy, who will be left to save the Minions… and the world?
