Disney’s Planes is Flying into Homes on DVD & Blu-ray! – Review

November 27, 2013 by Randi 1 Comment

For any of you with little boys, nephews, grandsons, or even little girls, I’m sure that you’re well aware of the fact that “if it has wheels” or “if it goes fast” then it is certainly quite intriguing for children. With my own little ones, we have a steady interest in all of these things; race cars, monster trucks, motorcycles, quads, tractors, big rigs, and more. However, after attending an air show a few years ago, they have quickly developed a love for all “if it flies” items – particularly airplanes.

Unfortunately, that was the one area of play and entertainment that I couldn’t easily find that was geared toward kids. Without wanting to introduce my boys to war films and violent military play just yet, I ended up resorting to a YouTube clip of the Top Gun intro scene from which my children quickly memorized the lyrics to the “Danger Zone” song. Eventually, after the Disney Pixar Cars 2 film was released, a specific character from that film brought the world of planes to children everywhere. And, now, they’ve expanded that… quite literally.

“From high above the world of Cars…”

Disney's Planes

With the August release of Disney’s Planes, my boys were thrilled to fly into the world of aviation. This time, specifically meant for children!

In this adorable film, Dusty is an airplane that is afraid of heights. A fear that is quite common for many seems odd coming from an airplane but that is part of what makes the movie so relatable.

Disney's Planes - Dusty

Despite Dusty’s fears, he still dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. However, as a tiny cropduster plane, this dream certainly seems farfetched and not many have much confidence in the little airplane.

Disney's Planes - Dusty

Determined to prove everyone wrong, including himself, Dusty seeks help from the best of the best. Through his training with Skipper, a veteran Navy Corsair fighter, and his flight school, Dusty finally begins building his confidence (and skill).

Soon enough, he qualifies for the Wings Across the World race and enters a competition filled with the greatest fliers in the world. After constantly being pushed to his limits, both emotionally and physically, many of his competitors quickly realize that this little underdog has some real potential. Of course, this warrants the usual antagonist enemies but, more importantly, it also helps Dusty acquire a wonderful group of friends and a plethora of fans.

Disney's Planes

After all, who doesn’t love a good, inspirational dream?

Now, I’m not one to spoil the ending for you but I’m sure that you can figure out where this is heading. Thankfully, there is no need to hold your breath any longer. Finally available on DVD and Blu-Ray, Disney’s Planes can fly its way right into your living room!

About Randi

Randi is a stay-at-home mother to two wildly crazy little boys, in love with one hell of a great man, a hobbyist writer and, more or less, glued to her camera. In a world where making mud pies, searching for bugs and racing Matchbox cars have become her forte, her true passion can be found all around her (or attached to her hip) at any given moment - her family.
