DIY Autumn Leaf Candle Jars

DIY Autumn Leaf Candle Jars

Fall is my favorite time of year. Although we don’t seem to have as many fall type of days as we did when I was a child, I treasure each warm, crisp day that arrives. Fall also makes me want to decorate the house and even create my own decor! I recently made these DIY Autumn Leaf Candle Jars to brighten up my home with beautiful autumn colors.

What you will need:

~ Artificial leaves
~ Jars {I used small spaghetti sauce jars!}
~ Raffia
~ Glue gun & glue sticks

Instructions:

Determine how many leaves you will need for your jar. Cut two tiny slits on either side of the top of the leaf, like this:

Take a long piece of raffia (measure it against your line of leaves, leaving about 6″ on either end.  Start with one end of the strand and carefully weave it through the two holes on each leaf. Continue until you have put raffia through all of the leaves.

There are just so many uses for these leaves {more on that later}. The package included SO many leaves!

You don’t need a huge strand of leaves – probably 3 or 4 {depending on the size of your jar}. The leaves and raffia will look like this:

Fake Fall Leaves

Using your glue gun, put small dabs on the jar and press the leaves on. Be careful when pressing on the leaves though, as the glue is hot!

Your jar will look like this after you have glued the leaves on:

Gently tie a small knot in the front, and then tie a bow. Clip off the ends of the raffia diagonally, so they are even with each other.

You can use several types of candles in these, depending on the size of your jars. Tea lights, votives and short pillar candles work beautifully.

When nighttime rolls around, put a candle inside and enjoy the warm, gentle glow of these beautiful jars!

I mentioned some other projects you can do with the leaves. One idea is to keep threading the raffia through leaves until you have a length that will work well inside your house or even outdoors. Another idea is to glue leaves together forming a big circle. This can be used as a base on a table for your Fall centerpiece.
