I am always on the lookout for great deals when I go shopping, so naturally I was excited to learn about Dollar General! You may already know about the new home that we purchased recently, and since we are starting fresh, I need pretty much everything for the home – housewares, toiletries, and of course decor. Although I have never been to a Dollar General store, I have discovered so many things about them recently, and I hope to shop there very soon!
Although there aren't any Dollar General stores in my neighborhood, I will be stopping by the one at 1729 West Highway 140 in Merced, CA the next time I head to our new home. It's a quick exit off the freeway and I can't wait to see what goodies I can find for myself and our house.
What is Dollar General? Well, for starters, it is a store that has just about anything you might need. From electronics, to clothing, to toiletries and everything in between. To me, it sounds like a one-stop shopping destination. They even have brand name and private label products!

In addition to the great selection, the prices at Dollar General are very impressive. I have been perusing their website, and already have found some fantastic deals, including a hummingbird feeder for only $3, a Garmin GPS for only $75 and some really cute women's jeans for only $12. Yes – $12 for jeans! One other unique thing at Dollar General is that you can get items further discounted if you choose to buy with the wholesale options. More units per item equals even lower prices!
Some Dollar General locations even have a Dollar General Market where you can find groceries at very affordable prices. See what I mean about it being a one-stop store? When you sign up for their online programs such as text alerts, emails and Facebook, you can have the best deals (including coupons!) sent directly to you.
Of course I am excited that soon there will be 50 new stores – Dollar General in California – this year. I have a feeling that I will be frequenting one or more of the new stores quite a bit. With deals like they have, who could resist? Certainly not me!
As if all of the above isn't enough to make one love Dollar General, I am also impressed by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. I love companies that "do good", and this company is no exception. Dollar General believes in the importance of reading, writing and getting a GED. An interesting fact: The founder of Dollar General was functionally illiterate when he started the company. Maybe this is why their Literacy Foundation is near and dear to their hearts, and why their continued commitment to literacy programs is so strong.
Make sure you visit the Dollar General website, where you can like the Dollar General Facebook page, sign up for text alerts and/or subscribe to their emails! Also, don't forget to click on the "coupons" tab to clip your favorite coupons. Here's a little hint for you – currently there is a coupon for $5 off $25, which is good this Saturday (April 28th). You are welcome.
