Marvel’s the Avengers – Interview with Tom Hiddleston #TheAvengersEvent

Tom Hiddleston

While I was in NYC for the Marvel’s Avengers Red Carpet Screening at the Tribeca Film Festival, we were treated to something really special. We were whisked to a suite at the Trump Soho Hotel to interview “Loki” (well Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki in Marvel’s the Avengers).

The setting was casual – we were basically sitting in the living room with him, all in a circle. When he first walked in the room you could almost hear the collective gasps as this beauty of a man set foot in “our” suite. I believe you COULD hear the thud of 25 mom blogger’s jaws dropping on the floor.

What a charming man Tom Hiddleston is! He has gorgeous blue eyes that honestly captivated us all. He had an accent to die for and an awesome sense of humor. It was like talking with an old friend.

We were each asked before the interview, to think of a few questions to ask Tom. It was fun to see what each blogger came up with, and even more fascinating to hear Tom’s answers.

When asked if he preferred being a bad guy or a good guy, Tom answered: “You know, I love playing both, to
be honest. There are different challenges involved in both. I am interested in flawed heroes and heroic villians, because I think that no one is all wise or all bad”.

Another blogger asked if we are going to feel sorry for Loki in this movie. Tom responded that “On one level, it was like, I knew I had to up the ante because there’s seven superheroes that make up the Avengers, and in order for the audience to be pumping their fists for Iron Man, and Hulk, and Thor, and Captain America, they need to overcome a really big obstacle. And, unfortunately, that big obstacle is me.”. Of course we giggled at that response. He continued with, There is a lovely scene where you see a glimmer of his vulnerability, but it comes yielded to the dark side, you know?”.

I asked if he performed his own stunts and he said that he did.

We were divided into two groups before the interviews – half of us interviewed Tom Hiddleston while the other half interviewed Cobie Smulders. Then each group interviewed the other. When my friend Kas, from Southern Bella’s Ways to Save was in the “other” group interviewing Tom, she apparently twisted her ankle and began to fall. Well guess who caught her before she fell all the way? Tom Hiddleston! Now there’s a true hero for you! I hope she is feeling better now…but what a story to tell!

It was so interesting to interview Tom before seeing the film. I never would have recognized him if I hadn’t met him beforehand. He did a superb job as “Loki” and knowing his true personality a bit, made it a little hard to dislike him in the film.

Charming is really an understatement, yet I don’t know the exact words to describe Tom Hiddleston. I do know that I am one of #LokisGirls and #TeamLoki on Twitter. Check it out! Don’t forget to follow #TheAvengersEvent too!

*I was provided complimentary lodging and travel from Disney, for coverage of Marvel’s the Avengers Red Carpet event coverage. No other form of compensation was received.
