How many photos do you have on your smartphone – tens, hundreds, thousands? I know that I have, well, probably more than I’m willing to go through and count. What if I told you that those photos could protect a child from bullying? Or help to restore a public park? Or allow eight mothers to keep their babies free of HIV? What if I told you that one of your photos could send a student to nursing school? That one photo could help a child in Mexico get to school safely? Would you believe that your photo could send a girl in Liberia to school, help a baby in Bangladesh stay healthy, protect a child from a sports injury, or even help a newborn baby thrive? Now, if I told you that simply sharing your photo(s) could do all of these things, would you do it?
Through the newly launched Donate a Photo program, Johnson & Johnson has enabled you to do just that. Your endless amount of phone photos can now help raise funds for good causes. For every photo that is shared through the Donate a Photo program, Johnson & Johnson will donate $1 to the cause that you want to help. With a list of trusted, non-profit causes to choose from (Save the Children, Keep America Beautiful, Safe Kids Worldwide, and more), you can get started on your very own philanthropic mission today.

With seven different causes to choose from, you can help fun whichever goal you’d like. Once a cause meets its predetermined goal, it is replaced by yet another cause needing help and awareness. No worries if you cannot choose between all of the wonderful causes because you can help any cause you’d like, daily! With one photo per day, per week, per month, per year, you can help 365 causes – or one cause 365 times, or five causes 73 times! Any combination of charitable photo sharing and, thus, funding is possible. In addition to the obvious good that you can do by simply sharing your photo(s) and allowing Johnson & Johnson to make a monetary donation on your behalf, you’re also getting the word out and helping to create an infectious wave of good deeds done.
When you share your photo, you spread the word about the causes that need help, and you and your friends can help those causes meet their goals.
Here’s how it works:
- Step One: Access your app store and download the free Donate a Photo app (available on iOS and Android devices)
- Step Two: Open the app, sign up, and create your free profile
- Step Three: Click the “Donate” button on the bottom of the in-app screen
- Step Four: Choose a cause that you would like to contribute to
- Step Five: Take a new photo or choose one from your device’s gallery
- Step Six: Donate your photo and share it with your friends on Facebook and/or Twitter
- Step Seven: Do it again tomorrow! And the next day! And the day after that!
There are no requirements to meet in terms of what photos you can use. You truly have free reign here. You can check out all of the current photos donated by viewing the gallery for each. As of this moment, 36,553 photos have been shared through the Donate a Photo program.
I donated my first photo this morning. As a parent, we frequent public parks and playgrounds with our little ones so, when I saw the cause to Help Restore a Public Park, I was sold. Now, those of you that know me probably know that I am a tad bit organizationally crazy so I tried to keep in theme with the outdoors to best coincide with the cause. Of course, you could choose any photo to donate (related or not) and it would still work wonders in helping to push the mission further. I ended up coming up with four photos that fit the bill so this is what I came up with…
I think that it came out quite well and I am grateful that something as simple as a photo is going towards helping great causes. Submitting a photo through the Johnson & Johnson Donate a Photo app is a, truly, selfless act. Not only does it help to better the lives of others, but it also betters the people behind the mass of photos. Forget “throwback Thursday” photos. Do something good for your neighbor, your community, and our world by selflessly donating a #SelflessSelfie photo. Let’s start a revolution – a philanthropic revolution of selfless good deeds done. Share your photos now. Get your friends involved. Get your kids involved. Let’s change the world… one photo at a time.
