I am an ice cream fanatic – I have a bowl almost every night before bed. I worry, though, about the fat in the ice cream I eat. I was so happy to discover Dreyer’s Slow Churned Ice Cream, which has only half the fat that ordinary ice creams have!
Dreyer’s is a name I am very familiar with, as I have enjoyed it for years. There are so many reasons to love Dreyer’s (or Edy’s if you live East of the Rockies!) – including a variety of yummy flavors, and fresh new ones added frequently. There is no possible way to get bored with all of the flavors and varieties that Dreyer’s carries, and now that it is available with half the fat, I am one happy camper!
I was asked to try a couple flavors, and after much deliberation, I settled on the Caramel Delight and Mint Chocolate Chip. I figured I would pick one that was decadent and one that was refreshing. Of course the Mint Chocolate Chip was also decadent!
What about the taste of the 1/2 fat ice creams? Well, honestly, if I didn’t already know they were reduced fat, I would have never, ever guessed. They are rich and creamy and the quality shines through with every bite. This comes as no surprise, really, as Dreyer’s has always used the best ingredients.
Dreyer’s/Edy’s Slow Churned 1/2 the fat ice cream also has 1/3 fewer calories! I do not feel so guilty anymore when I have my bowl of ice cream at night. It really is the one thing I look forward to each night (other than sleep!), and I would really hate to have to give it up. I am glad I don’t have to sacrifice the rich taste though, which is nice. Did I mention that there are more than 20 flavors? Oh yes…and this thrills me to no end.
I “like” the Dreyer’s Facebook page, and I hope you will too. They are doing something pretty special, and I hope you will participate.
For every smile that is uploaded on the Dreyer’s Facebook page, Dryer’s will donate $5.00 to Operation Smile! I uploaded my ice cream smile, and not only does ice cream make me smile, but so does helping organizations such as Operation Smile.
Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft – often, they are unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. Operation Smile is dedicated to restoring the gift of a smile by providing healthcare evaluations and free surgeries for children worldwide. Operation Smile has provided more than 2 million healthcare evaluations and conducted over 200,000 free surgeries to date.
But wait! There’s more! Of the photos submitted, ten lucky smiles will be featured in a Dreyer’s Slow Churned print ad! Also, one picture will win a spot on the cartons of a Slow Churned limited-edition flavor, which will be re-introduced to store shelves in early 2013!
Here’s my ice cream smile, that I uploaded to help Operation Smile – where’s yours?
*I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Dreyer’s / Edy’s. I received a coupon to purchase product samples and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Mmf. Now I want ice cream. Thanks a lot! 😉 Love that they are involved with Operation Smile, such a worthy cause.
Mint chocolate chip is one of my favorites! And that caramel delight looks sooooo good. You were smart to go ahead and get the BIG cartons! I don’t trust myself with those. 😉
I really like Edy’s Ice Cream and enjoy their slow churned varieties, my favorite being waffle cone! I used to eat a bowl of ice cream every night but have recently cut back a bit and have it only a few nights a week.
Why is 1/2 fat so hard to find.? Where is it sold?
Have you tried Food 4 Less?
