My husband can be pretty tough on his wallets.  Between working on a farm and life in general, his wallets can take a beating.  This summer we will be in Peru in July doing mission work and he has been wanting to get a lighter, less bulky wallet to take on this trip as well.  I was so excited to have the opportunity to introduce him to LifeTheReal (LTR) Flowfold Sailcloth Wallets because I thought they would be the perfect wallet for him to take on our trip.

Flowfold wallets have many unique characteristics that set them apart from ordinary wallets:

  • Thin: A flowfold adds only 5.83 hundredths of an inch to your stash, this addition is less than the thickness of two credit cards.
  • Extremely light: A flowfold weighs in at 16 grams (the weight of 3 sheets of 8.5x 11 paper).
  • Durable: Several times the strength of steel at a fraction of the weight. The fibers in the composite laminate fabrics we use are made of carbon, aramid(kevlar) and pentex.
  • Washable and quick-dry (made from waterproof material).
  • Vegan friendly, no animal products used here.

LTR is an ecologically conscience company located in Maine that creates handmade wallets made from reclaimed sailcloth that is highly non-biodegradable.  This sailcloth would normally be headed to landfills but LTR takes this scrap, blemished or discontinued sailcloth fabric and creates beautiful, useful, unique bi-fold wallets.

When I showed the wallet to David he was a little skeptical about it because it was so different from any wallet he had ever encountered.  We both immediately noticed the lightweight of the wallet.  It weighs around a half ounce and is super light even with all his “stuff” inside the wallet.  Speaking of “stuff”, these wallets will hold a lot despite their lightweight and size.  Each wallet has 2 ID windows, 2 card pockets that will hold 2-14 cards each and 1 main “cash stash” pocket.  Don’t be fooled by its lightweight though because this wallet is super tough and durable.  David has bent it, twisted it, sat on it, stood on it, jumped on it, got it dirty, etc and it still looks brand new and has held up well through all the trials.

In fact, LTR wallets are made completely of water-proof materials so the wallets can be washed and will dry quickly.  Best of all, if you accidentally get it wet it won’t ruin your actual wallet.  While I figured David would only carry this wallet to Peru on our mission trip, he actually emptied his leather wallet and put it in a drawer and now uses his new LTR Sailcloth wallet on a daily basis.  He loves it and even plans to buy one for his Dad for Father’s Day!
